How do you go about writing college essays, especially if you had a plain vanilla life (No fancy camps or interesting stories or compelling life experiences)?

The thing about college essays is that they have to be about you, and they have to be unique. Even if you think your life has been plain, think of it as the only such life that has ever been lived and will ever be lived. So dig deep and find what parts of it relate to your identity and such. Like if you do an activity, think about why you do it or what you would have missed out on if you hadn’t done it. Even the mundane can become an essay topic if it’s something that wouldn’t happen to everyone.
And some general experiences are pretty universal, like pain (a topic which could be used for common app essay prompts), but each person’s specific experience with it is different. I know it’s hard, I’m kind of in the same boat as you, but it boils down to figuring out what kind of person you are and what made you that way. If you can find something like that, even if it sounds boring, you’ll be able to write a good essay on it.

That’s the problem. The essay will never be as interesting as someone being a child prodigy musician or went from being homeless to the ivys.

Read some of the tips pinned to the top of the essay forum to see if there is any advice. The essays are not limited to the things you mention. Are you saying you don’t engage in the world, community, school, or have anything that interests you at all? That’s tough.

You are never as plain as you think you are. Stop over exaggerating and really find the thing that has defined you. Everyone has a defining moment. Find yours

I do all that. How do you come up with an interesting story say about your love for playing soccer or volunteering at a church? These are all vanilla things most people do.

Actually, you can definitely come up with essay ideas through that. I’m sure you’ve had good experiences and bad experiences through soccer that you’ve learned lessons from. Or maybe through volunteering at church, you’ve learned different things or have changed as a person. These are definitely experiences you can turn into a great essay if you present it right.

Not everyone is a prodigy or has a rags-to-riches story. Adcoms are aware of that. Just make yourself interesting in any way you can. Even the blandest food in the world can be made delicious with the right spice.

Hi, hope following Tips will help you in writing college essays.

Early Beginning: It is an undeniable fact that it is difficult to make up your mind and begin writing an essay. But, in all cases, earlier the better. If you begin writing the essay early, you have ample time to think and research about the topic and add it into the essay. This will also prevent you from writing something that would make no sense when you have just a little time to submit it.

Prepare a Draft: Preparing a draft or a rough copy of your essay is always a good idea. Jot down all the points that you would want to include in the essay. This will help you speak out your mind and dig out all that you want to write. You can later sort the points and arrange them in an order in which you would go forward writing it

Follow the Flow: You cannot keep adding points that you keep remembering with time. Once you are prepared with the draft, sort it in groups where they would be written. The three main parts of the essay would be the Introduction, the Main Body and the Conclusion.

Do not beat around the Bush: If you give a certain word count that you have to accomplish, you need not go repeating the same point again and again or do not even move out of the topic. Be sure to stick to the topic and be precise about things.

Get others Involved: This can be done, especially when you are asked to write about yourself. You can let some of your friends or near ones read what you have written and confirm whether what you have written actually speaks about you. This will prevent exaggeration of any quality and also help you add a few that they may know.

These tips will help you write a perfect essay for your next college submission. Another most important step in essay writing is proofreading. Make sure you yourself read your essay twice before actually submitting it. This will help in detecting any errors or faulty statements that may be written. There are also many professional for essay writing services that have been helping a number of students to get higher grades. But, here too, you need to keep in mind that educationists have been reading essays for a long time now. They have read a number of essays and thus it is easy for them to detect any sort of plagiarism. It is thus important for a student to make sure that they submit completely original essays that are written by them. Even if you hire an essay writing service to write a piece of content for you, it is your responsibility to first ensure that they too will provide you a plagiarism free content.

Worst. Advice. Ever. Always write your own content.

Think about one interesting experience or story that you might tell to a friend or relative that represents you. For me, it was one experience simultaneously developing my love of creative writing and overcoming my fear of public speaking. It doesn’t have to be something big, just something you can describe well with imagery and heart

@WasatchWriter Wow, I can’t believe someone would even suggest that. Yeah, don’t do this.
