I’m one of those people that really want a good college experience (dorms, weather, environment, atmosphere, extracurriculars). The two schools that would offer the most enjoyable experience for me are also the two most expensive universities. Would it be wise to settle for a cheap school with a meh experience to save money OR pay more for a really good experience school?
I’m not sure how much people remember their college experience/if it matters in the end, so any general advice is appreciated.
@HSSr19 , I’m in the minority. I believe some debt isn’t bad. How much are you talking? What is your expected career path?
I’m a parent. I had a full tuition scholarship at a public school I turned down for a private LAC. I was able to double major. For me, it was worth it, but my level of debt was nothing compared to today’s costs.
My oldest was an Engineering major. He took on some debt in order to do 2 study abroad summers. That debt vs his first year earnings was worth it.
If your family can afford the moe expensive places with no problem, then sure go to one of them. Have fun.
If your parents need to take on debt, then no. Go to the cheaper place, and learn to make your own fun.
If you just want to go to college to party. Skip the college part. Move to that town, get a job for a couple of years, and party all you want. When you get that out of your system you will be ready to go to college. It really is Ok to wait.
