The fall tour of the Performing and Visual Arts College Fair (by Nat'l Assoc for College Admission Counseling) is coming to town 10/28. Has anybody been to one of these fairs? Are the schools represented by current faculty, or do they send student reps? Frankly, I've been so impressed by the generous offering of personal and researched information by parents and students alike on this site; I hardly think I'll learn anything I can't find here!

Hi melsmom09 and welcome-My D and I went to the Performing and Visual Arts Fair last year, when she was a Junior and again this year. Most of the schools are represented by someone from admissions. We never met any faculty. It is a great place to get brochures about the various programs as well as have any questions answered. I felt it was a good starting point in helping us narrow down our school list to a reasonable number.

We also went last year in the Chicago area, and found there were some faculty members there... in fact, we were able to meet the theatre prof my daughter was auditioning for two weeks later. He made her feel quite at ease that night, which I think helped her get through her first audition.

But because the 'tour' of this fair goes on for so long, I'm guessing that colleges supply a variety of representatives at different cities. I doubt the same person attends the fair at every city.

Thank you, mtsmom and teriwtt for your responses. My D is a junior and has already "decided" she wants to be on the east coast. I'm hoping this fair will open her eyes to all the other regions of the country that appear to have very strong and reputable MT programs (she doesn't want to stay in her own backyard). Since I've become addicted to this site - CC Anonymous anyone?- I'm afraid I'm going to be the one doing most of the research into schools for her, but I want her to take the lead. Hopefully the fair will inspire her to do that.

Hi, my name is musicmom1215, and I'm a CC-aholic.......

Perhaps we didn't know what to look for/ask but we also went to the fair last year at Northwestern (chicago) and rather felt it a waste of time. My d had some pretty specific questions - What is the curriculum? What type of acting style(s) are emphasized, etc. and found few real answers. We only found admission's people there. Can't remember talking to any professors. Probably depends on which school booths you happen to stop at. I will say, get there when it starts because it was very crowded.
