College Fairs

Gwen - Glad it worked out!

"Of course, there was the risk of being murdered by people jealous of our PRE-PRINTED LABELS!!! " - I’ve used that idea for a long time. These days there is a sheet of address labels in the back of each checkbook, so I am always ready.

PS - Address labels are great for so many things! We’ve used them on 2-way radios (had one returned from the campground restroom at a family reunion), ski equipment, books (especially if you lend them and want them returned), etc.

If it has an impact on other activities it may not be worth it. We had multiple college fairs available and we attended a few local ones as they involved very little effort. We went to one out if town (2 hrs drive), had fun but did not get any new or valuable information.

Yes, the decision often had to do with schedule availability. But sometimes college visits helped get the general conversation about college planning going with my son. Perhaps college fairs can do that for other families.

Probably the most useful thing about a mobbed college fair is that it really drives home to the student (and parent) what a large number of colleges are out there, and also how many other students are also out there. This in turn makes you realize how it is important to choose carefully and also how it is important to differentiate yourself in your application so you don’t look like everyone else.
