Hi guys,
So Im a senior in High School right now and I have been in the U.S. for more than 8 years. However, we have not received the so-called green-card yet. Therefore, Im being denied financial aid in almost all places. So, Im looking for a source of financial aid and a college that is willing to accept me. My ultimate goal is to become a physician and I want to major in Bio-medical Engineering. My GPA isn't great but it is comparable to some of the low-end GPAs of the people who got accepted into Cornell and UPenn. I am involved in North Indian Classical music, western piano and Taekwondo. I've done all of this for the past 7/8 years.

Ive taken these AP Courses in the past:
- AP Physics B-4
- AP Chemistry-5
- AP Calculus AB-5
- AP Calculus BC-5
- AP Physics C, Mechanics-5
- AP Physics C, Electricity and Magnetism-5
And Im taking these AP Courses now:
- AP French Culture & Language(4 Expected)
- AP Computer Science A(5 Expected)
- AP Biology(5 Expected)
- AP Psychology(5 Expected)
- and AP Statistics(Definite 5)

I took the following SAT II exams
- Math II-770
- Physics -800

Im expecting to be in the top 10% of my graduating class from high school.
So far, I have gotten accepted into Rutgers the State University of NJ.

So do you guys know of any sources of financial aid? Loans, Scholarships, Grants? Does anyone know how I apply to apply to the Rutgers Honors College of Engineering?

Are you undocumented? Or are you in the process of getting a green card? Because the situation’s quite different.

See what Rutgers’ requirements for in-state would be: would graduating for a public high school suffice?

Otherwise, you must apply as an international applicant. It means focusing either on schools your parents can afford outright or a school where you can get a scholarship as an “international”. Some offer merit scholarships (check out College of Engineering at U of Alabama), some offer need-based aid on a super selective basis.

How much can your family afford to pay?

Are you considered in-state for tuition and fees purposes in the state where you currently live? If so, can your family cover the costs of a community college and/or a commuting-distance public college/university?

Contact each institution on your list, and ask for their instructions about your applications. You may need to file the domestic application for admissions because you have been in school here, but you are international for financial aid purposes and may be required to file some extra paperwork. Do not be surprised if each place on your list asks that you do something different.

Then go to the Financial Aid Forum, and read the stickied threads at the top of that forum on the topics of Automatic Full-Tuition/Full-Ride Scholarships, and Competitive Full-Tuition/Full-Ride Scholarships. Some of those are open to international applicants. Check each university’s website to find out the details. Many have early cut-off dates for that kind of money, so you might have to skip the turkey on Thursday and crank out the applications.

Wishing you all the best!
