I just received mail from a LAC offering me a chance to fly-in and visit them for ~$200. Unfortunately, this LAC doesn't offer degrees in the areas I am most interested.

Does anyone else know of any other colleges that offer these types of programs? I don't mind paying, but I probably can't afford full blown airfare rates and such by myself. Also, I think it would be fun to visit with other prospective students.

But most programs would contact you if interested.

If money is a problem, then only visit your top choices and then do visits in the spring for others after you're accepted. In the spring you'll be able to get free accomodation and food, etc.

Notre Dame, I believe, offer prospective students a free trip to visit and stay at the campus for two nights. I went to the Spring Visitation Weekend event with all-expenses paid. I was in your situation too. If ND has not given me the opportunity to visit, I would have never gone since I can't afford the airplane ticket.

These offers are only extended to special classes of students: either they really, really, really want you for a special program or class of applicant, or they know you can't afford any type of travel. Notre Dame is not (unfortunately) in the habit of flying all applicants to campus for the weekend.
If you get one of these offers, the school has you on its top applicant list. Be very flattered. If you don't get one, don't be discouraged; they are rare indeed.

college of the atlantic has a fly in program where you have to send an essay and transcript. if they select you then you get to go visit for free. unfortunately the deadline has already passed (i am going!)
