But they consider USC "strong?" Or the SEC with its wonderful schedule that we've discussed before..
[/quote]

You make a good point about the Big-10's record vs. the SEC not being so bad, but it's hard to argue with USC's record towards the Big-10, not with solid or even blowout wins against:

Iowa (38-17) in 2003
Michigan (28-14) in 2004
Michigan (32-18) in 2007
Illinois (49-17) in 2008
Ohio State (35-3) in 2008

It's not even the case that it's one team (like Ohio State) laying an egg over and over - it's 4 different teams, all of whom were #1 or #2 in the Big-10 that season.

---->"Actually, the more knowledgeable sports writers saw PSU as a very good team and more "complete" than 'Bama (questionable passing game) and the various B12 contenders (suspect defenses).
Not any that I have read, seen or googled (and I'm trying). Which "more knowledeable sports writers are you speaking of believe that Penn State is more "complete" that the various Big 12 contenders or the SEC eventual champion? The ones at "The Daily Collegian""<----

Lee Corso said numerous times that Penn State was the most "complete" team in college football this year. Yeah, they blew it at Iowa, but many teams lose random games like that.

The game I was referring to is a conference game - Texas Tech vrs OU, and home field advantage is a huge factor for regular season games (ask UT players how it was to play at Lubbock with all the "black out" makeup - scary creatures).

I am not speaking of bowl games - OU isn't in any bowl as of yet;)

Hopefully for UT it will not be the national championship!!

That must be why he picked OSU over Penn State this year.

Corso Dons the Head - Coverage and Analysis Video - FanDome

I love it when he puts on those stupid mascot heads (especially in enemy territory):)

I know he picked OSU...I am just saying he said a bunch of times to Herby on College Football Final that PSU was the best all around team. He said it after the OSU game and on the weekend when PSU had a bye. Granted I am a disgruntled PSU fan...but I think we've been overrated this year. We should have beat Iowa, no doubt, but are we championship material? Honestly...I don't think so. Not this year anyway. We are much better than we showed on Saturday though that's for sure!

Oh, I know, I feel your pain. I am a disgruntled UT fan and feel that the loss to Tech in the VERY LAST SECOND was such a shame!! PSU should have beaten Iowa, and on any other Saturday the outcome would probably be such, and I can't say the same thing about Texas and TTU - they are looking pretty unstoppable (crossing fingers for OU to do it!!).

Speaking of that - this will be the first and probably last time in my life that I will cheer for the Sooners!! ;)

As for Texas and championship material - this is supposed to have been a "rebuilding" type year for them, having lost many on defense and having an extremely young secondary. My realistic hopes are that they somehow get into a BCS bowl this year and compete for the national championship next year. Maybe against your Lions!:)

Haha yeah we can definitely relate when it comes to last second losses...Texas could still end up in the ship though, but our strength of schedule just kicked us in the arse. Oh well...as you said, maybe next year! I would love to see a Texas-PSU matchup!

You know what would be funny...

if MSU beat Penn State on November 22...
then Ohio State would go to the Big Ten championship...
and then which team would be going to the rose bowl?
Mine...

*crosses fingers

Assuming your team is michigan state, wouldn't ohio state hold the tiebreaker for the rose bowl?

You realize tha the Big Ten does not have a championship game...

From what I understand, for Michigan State to go to the Rose Bowl, it would need to win out (meaning beat Penn State), as well as relying on Ohio State to drop one more game.

Not impossible, but highly unlikely. I would think both the Buckeyes and the Lions would be playing to end their seasons on a good note and not both implode in the next two weeks.

Who would think Oregon State could be in the mix for Rose Bowl as of today?

That LSU had to scramble for a win against a lowly Troy further supports what I said before. They could lose games here and there if they don't have such an easy OOC schedule. They've been given free pass and high rankings without taking much risk for too long. It's time to require them to schedule tougher teams and prove themselves first.

They have an excellent shot. Oregon State always finishes strong (won 7 of their last 8 the past 2 seasons) and they're peaking late again. They're under-ranked at #21, they should be higher than that.

Plus they've got the best home-advantage of almost anyone in the nation: 5-0 at home this season (5-1 last year)

But their hardest two games are coming up. They have to beat arizona on the road and win a rivalry game with oregon (and nothing is quite as satisfying to a team, as knocking your rival down from the Rose to the Holiday bowl :) )

So I don't see it happening. Probably USC goes to the rose bowl again.

As for LSU, they're over-ranked at #18. They struggled at home to beat Troy and they don't even have a single signature win. They belong somewhere ranked #21-25, but not in the top 20.

Their high ranking/free pass is because they won the national championship last year (so give them the benefit of the doubt at the start of the season) but now it's clear that both LSU's offense and defense are nowhere near last years.

i forgot to specify "they" as SEC (enough though I think Florida is legit). LSU is just an example.

So, I'm predicting a Berkeley win tomorrow!
Stanfurd is going down.

Not that it'll help Cal go anywhere...just as a point of honor.

Keeping 'Furd out of a bowl is the real reason we're gonna win =P

I think this Texas-Tech/Oklahoma game is the worst game I have watched all season. Possibly the worst game I can remember watching, ever. Any and everything that could go wrong for Texas Tech, went wrong. It's a nightmare. It's doubly frustrating because not only was a Big 12 Title on the line, or even the National Championship Game, but also the Heisman hopes for Crabtree and Harrell. Just as devastating a game as you can go through. Can't help but think the Sooners played pretty dirty, too.

(The funny thing is, if Okie State wins against Oklahoma next week, Texas Tech STILL goes to the Big 12 Title Game. If they beat Missouri, I assume they're BCS-bowl bound. But that's quite a big hypothetical.)

Oregon State winning out and going to the Rose Bowl is probably the better thing for USC fans. Trojans want to see a Big 12 or SEC team in a BCS game outside of Pasadena, and Oregon State taking the RB berth probably gets them there.

And finally: didn't see Notre Dame fans pelting their own team with snowballs, but hope it shows up on YouTube.

This Trojan is rooting for the Beavs. I'm tired of beating down Big 10 teams. Right now, the NCG is still not out of the question, but it's more likely to be the Fiesta versus Texas or OK. I would love a rematch.

Yeah, ND fans should be ashamed of themselves. That was awful behavior and I hope they find and punish the students who did that. Sadly, I remember when 'SC fans threw things back when Hackett was coaching.

National Championship = Texas vs. Alabama/Florida :)
