If there are penalties for the football program as well it will be interesting to see what happens to Mike Garrett. His job was in trouble 10 years ago when he got stuck with a 4th choice NFL washout. So far that’s been his only successful hire really (at least in USC’s 2 big sports + basketball). If two programs go down in NCAA violation flames, you’d think he’d have to go down with them.

USC’s president is retiring and there is no guarantee that there won’t be a new AD by August. A whole lot of change and uncertainty, makes it tempting to leave.

Also, rumor was Pete and Garrett clashed over Joe McKnight. USC compliance wouldn’t let him play in the bowl (and basically guaranteed him going pro) despite that probably nothing is going to come out of it. I don’t think sanctions had anything to do with it, they’ve never fazed him before.

Still, here’s hoping that USC comes through with a great hire. Whoever is coming in will have a loaded roster (especially if they manage to keep the recruiting class) though the coaching turnover is a big negative.

Of course, if the new coach doesn’t work out, it just means I can upgrade season tickets when the sunshine fans give up theirs Eventually someone will “right the ship”.

This is just a shot in the dark, but I’m kind of secretly hoping that USC might get Chris Petersen. USC could certainly make it attractive for him.

Of course, if we’re getting a new AD that could muck up the coaching search. And since we’re getting a new president, who knows what the deal with the AD is

Too bad…Pete Carroll was good for college football. Class act.

I think Petersen thinks he has a shot at winning an NC with Boise St, however remote, and that it would be a much bigger deal to do that than to win one with USC.

It’s possible he thinks that, but at the same time, he’s had 3 undefeated seasons of 4. This year, he was nearly left out of the BCS in favor of TCU despite going undefeated. Last year, he actually was left out of the BCS in favor of Utah despite going undefeated. For all the talk about Boise State making a NC run next year, it’s not going to happen.

(plus, USC could easily triple Petersen’s current salary and still get a hefty discount over what Carroll made)

Everyone is saying Mike Riley, but it seems odd considering that 1. He didn’t want the job before, in 2001, and 2. He’s said he’s happy in Corvallis.

This coaching search is going to suck up more of my attention than it should :)

I would think jack del rio would jump all over this job. No one goes to see games in Jacksonville, hes usc alum, a pretty good coach, and could be there for many years. I would be excited to see him coach in college.

I doubt mike riley or steve sarkisian would want to leave, they’re both doing great jobs at their schools. USC does have too much pressure, the new coach has to start winning NOW. But in Corvallis or Washington, they were given the chance to rebuild and recruit, and they don’t have to win big now.

In Corvallis, you don’t ever have to win big.

My guess is that Garrett would want an NFL guy, but if someone else is in control it would be more wide open. The quality of the candidates will probably depend on how much the threat of potential sanctions scares people off and whether USC will spend SEC-type money. I haven’t seen any $$$ figures mentioned yet.

Pete Carroll will be garbage for Seattle. Trust me, I watched him week in, week out ruin the Patriots back in the late 90s.

I hope all of USC’s recruits de-commit.

I second that.

I’m not sure why I disliked USC over the past few years, and I’m not sure how I will feel now that Pete Carroll is gone. Maybe it’s because I dislike the Pac-10 as a whole.

Nice to see the internet living up to its reputation for random, vehement hatred.

I dream of Oregon’s Football program going down the drain and being below .500 every season…

I dream of UConn going 12-0 next season.

Early Preseason top 25-

[Rivals.com College Football - Looking ahead: An early 2010 preseason top 25](http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1037628)

I don’t know why, I really like pete carroll. I watched his conference at usc yesterday, and his conference being introduced to the seahawks today. I really like his message, his energy, he is different from other coaches.

USC doesn’t have much of a recruiting class anyways, they used to completely own recruiting, its not a very good year this time around.

edit, the rivals top 25, I have a hard time thinking at Nebraska is the big 12 favorite, oh well, we shall see.

Connecticut
BUZZ: The Huskies finished 8-5 for the second consecutive season, but they were awfully close to a major breakthrough. None of the losses were by more than four points. If the Huskies can turn those close losses into narrow victories, as they did over the last month of the season, Connecticut could contend for the Big East title in 2010. The Huskies must replace leading receiver Marcus Easley, Big East sack leader Lindsey Witten and two starting defensive backs.

Badabababa…

Pre-season polls don’t mean s**t. I know Texas will finish better than 8.

WOW, I just saw on espn breaking news, lane kiffin going to usc? How surprising is that, i am so shocked. He is also bringing his dad to be his defense coordinator.

Hahaha what a d-bag. He really screwed some recruits too (Bryce Brown anyone?) and apparently Tennessee had 11 early entries this semester but news is that because they haven’t attended a class at UT they aren’t bound to Tennessee in any way yet (as in they wouldn’t have to sit out a year).
