Utah isn’t the most liberal environment, but the ballet program at U of Utah is supposed to be highly-ranked. [Department of Ballet ? University of Utah FineArts College](<a href=“School of Dance, University of Utah - Home”>http://ballet.utah.edu/)

Thank you so much for the advice everyone!
I’ll look into every suggestion though I’m worried that Duke, Utah and IU won’t really be the right kind of fits in terms of liberal environment and greek involvement.

@cltdad - Harvard actually sounds ideal! I love Boston and I love the thought of an extensive yet extracurricular program. Additionally the fact that students post-Harvard have gone on join major companies is very reassuring for me should I change my mind about not becoming a professional (although the idea of going to college and then joining ABT is kind of a hilariously bizarre thought). I will definitely make visiting a priority! Thank you.

@Consolation - Thank you! I definitely will.

Look into Duke! I’m a really serious ballet student (though I obviously don’t go to SAB haha) and I know a girl in my company who is two years older than me and went to Duke for dance (she is really good). Apparently the ballet classes there are fantastic and there are lots of performance and choreography opportunities.

Hi @derivative22 (PS nice name, <3 calculus)! Would you mind saying what company you are in or PMing me about it? I am interested in Duke and would love to know more about where people go after dance training there. Do you happen to know if there is an option for a double major with dance?

Also, to anyone- I have a 4.3 GPA which may seem low but I have never made a B, only A’s, its lowered from 0 period orchestra classes, I’ve gotten 4s and 5s on all 6 of my AP exams and a 2340 on SAT. I like the OP am looking for a good dance program focused on ballet that could help me get to the level I need to audition for companies, but it also a top-tier academic school where I can double-major. Now I’m looking at Wash U, Duke, Wake Forest, U Richmond, maybe Fordham and Indiana. Any more tips???

PSS I am taking a ballet class at Wake this Thursday and will update!
Thanks!

Yesterday I saw Lar Lubovich as part of the Dance Celebration series at Penn. Seven companies visit every year, and there are master classes in local universities, though I don’t know about open-to-anyone policies.

Your scores make you a strong candidate for Bryn Mawr, which has a dance program.

I assume you know about Drexel, Temple, and UArts. You might end up with merit money. Temple has an honors program.

I honestly think with your academic stats and your level of ballet training you will be disappointed with most college programs (especially the extracurricular or non-audition ones). If I were you I would definitely focus on schools in the Philadelphia area, as others have suggested, and see if you can dance at Pennsylvania Ballet on the side. You would be a good candidate for Penn, Haverford and Bryn Mawr. A friend of my daughter was heavily recruited for the PA Ballet company and it sounds as though it is a great up-and-coming program that really wants to groom dancers in a particular way. I wonder if it would be possible to be an apprentice there AND go to school full time. You could ask.
