I am an international student looking for colleges which offer degree in accounting.I want to know which schools have good programme and good job prospects. I don't think location matters for me but I would prefer schools in NY or Cali. But,it is no biggie! What really matters is if i can get job upon my graduation.
I am in top 1% of my high school, but yeah,it is a high school outside U.S! I got 2090 in my SAT with perfect scores in Maths and Physics of SAT 2. Any suggestion? =] Thank youuuuuu!!!!

University of Texas has one of the best accounting programs in the country. One of the Arizona schools is good, too. Not sure if it is ASU or UofA. In CA, I would choose USC in SoCal and Santa Clara in NoCal.

I would also check out Univ. of Illinois, Univ. of Michigan, and Ohio State University. None are in NY or CA, but all are excellent accounting schools that will match your stats profile.

You can learn accounting at literally hundreds of colleges. Heck, basic and intermediate accounting courses are taught online. In addition to Texas, BYU is highly ranked in accounting. But colleges who are ranked highly are big on theory, which is not really needed to get a job.

Apply broadly to colleges with undergrad biz schools. Wharton might be a stretch with your SAT-1 score. Look at NYU, USC, Emory, for example. (The first two have large international contingents.) Also, Michigan, Cal-Haas, UC Irvine, Cornell-ED. Georgetown, Boston College, Wake Forest…

ricegal : Thanks! I will b applyin there but U of Texas at Austin is really hard to get in for int students, right?

jshain : Thanks!

mom2collegekids : My dream school would be a big school with friendly people from different parts of the world! I don’t really care about sports club of stuff…
And I don’t want to burden my parents so the cost around 30k per year! (Yes,i am interested in getting partial financial aid so it better be a generous sku for int students!)
Well,i got some relatives and friends in NY and Cali. Even though I dun like crowded and noisy big cities , i suppose NY will give me a big oppurtunity for business related stuffs! Beautiful places and beaches in Cali;D Hehe Actually location doesnt really matter!!

bluebayou : Yeah! There are hundreds of colleges and that’s how i become xo confused… BYU is that sku with religious restrictions or sth like that? Ummm yeah getting a decent job is the important part since I m not US citizen o.o
I thought NYU and USC is really hard to get in.Do you think it’s worth a try?And what would be my other choices? Somebody told me that Baruch college is not so bad.Pros and Cons?

Yeah Baruch too is good for accounting. And BYU is that religious school you are talking about. They are very strict about Mormon rules but they have a great accounting program. Plus, they are really cheap when compared with other private universities of the US. It’ll be better if you check out BYU once by yourself.

It doesn’t sound like you’ll qualify for financial aid.

I don’t think you understand how FA works. You have to qualify for aid. It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to burden your parents. If your parents have a high income and/or assets, then even schools that give int’ls aid aren’t going to give you aid.

If you want to keep costs around $30k, then either look for schools that are within that budget (like maybe some CSUs or SUNYs) or look for schools that will give you merit scholarships to bring costs down to $30k per year.

NYU is going to expect you to pay all costs. It doesn’t give aid to int’ls. I don’t think USC does either.

What are your stats? If they’re high enough, then you could get merit scholarships at some of the schools that give them to int’ls students.

When you talk about ‘getting a decent job’ please understand that obtaining a bachelor’s degree in the US will not entitle you to a job in the US, nor make it much easier to obtain one here. You would have to find an employer willing to sponsor you for a visa, and they would have to turn down US citizens to do so.

If you are not full pay, your options are extremely limited since only a handful of US colleges are need-blind and meet full financial need for internationals. But more importantly, I don’t believe any of those offer undergrad accounting. Even if you apply to a Cal State college (Long Beach and San Diego are great in business) or SUNY, you will have to demonstrate full financial capacity to pay before the US will even issue you a student visa.

Yeah,I don’t understand how financial aid works.I only know that it’s hard for int student to get one!But i have seen a guy from my school got full scholarship to NYU.Anyway,i don’t think i want to go to NYU… the cost including everything will be above 50k per year…
For my stats,I got straight As and GPA of 90 on 100 scale. SAT : 620 CR 800 M 670W ,IELTS : 8.5/9…Hmmm i am taking my SAT again in May. Any other suggestions? And what is CSUs?

bluebayou : Lol i am so confused now! Uh, 30k for tuition wont be enuf for any accounting programme? What would be an estimate cost for not-so-bad college?
Oh,and another thing is that I am applying Diversity Visa for 2013. If I am lucky enuf,my family will be able to move to US. What really important for me now is to start the college in 2012 x]

*What would be an estimate cost for not-so-bad college?
*

There are many, many, many schools that have good accounting programs.

If your parents will pay about $30k per year for college, you’ll have some choices.

Your M+CR is 1420. That is high enough for some merit scholarships from a few schools that give them to int’ls. (that is not high enough for much/any merit from NYU). If you could raise your CR score, it would help as well.

USC gives out some 100 full tuition merit based scholarships to international students. Your SAT scores qualify for that scholarship. You should definitely give a try!
