College Freshman...Questions about transferring

Okay, I am an incoming college freshman...basically all through high school I did not achieve my full potential due to many personal problems I was having with the family. I live in WV and will be going to Concord University for my first year...I'm hoping to transfer to a competitive school for my 2nd year...my stats aren't bad but they are far from exceptional...like I said I let **** in my personal life interfere with my school work...I'm hoping to redeem myself this year, and I was just hoping for some input on what all I can do to give myself the best chance..I'm hoping to go to UVA next year...anyways here are my stats..

SAT:2010/1310
APs: USH-3 Eng Comp-4 Eng Lit-3
GPA: 3.5/ 3.8 weighted
Volunteering 100+ hours at hospital
One month volunteering with Red Cross overseas
ECs
Soccer, Key Club, Young Democrats
Community College Credit Hours-20

Assuming I work hard and have a high gpa and am active with organizations and volunteering on campus, what else should I be focusing on to give myself the best chance? Should i retake SAT, take SAT 2s? Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm moving this to the Tranfer Students forum as you will get better feedback there. Also, read the Transfer Admissions 101 sticky thread at the top of that forum to find out information about the transfer process.
