I am an entering college freshman at a tier-1 university. I plan on majoring in an engineering field, economics, or both and getting a business minor. My career intentions are working in a well-paying management or finance position in the future, and my rationale so far is that the engineering degree could both serve as a big bost to my resume given the tough reputation of my university's engineering program, and also as a back-up career if I can't land a good finance position after college (I understand they are hard to get).

I have just recently (past couple of months) started considering this plan, though, so I am not very knowledgeable on what a career in finance or management could look like from day 1 at a university.

Besides getting good grades, maybe a part-time job, summer jobs/internships, and making lots of friends, what are some things I should do in college to help my chances of landing a good job in business/finance (I am not sure which way I want to go yet) and then getting into a good or "top" MBA program after a few years in the workforce?

Any advice, tips, or suggested reading is highly appreciated!
