College Grades

Hey,
I was wondering what kind of grades successful applicants who have previous college work have. Right now I am a sophomore at NC State and plan to double major in Nuclear Engineering and Physics. I have about a 3.8 GPA along with some other clubs. I also plan to participate in club baseball this year.

I was just wondering where I stand GPA wise.

Thanks a lot!

For those candidates who are in college, the admissions office recommends that you take the same or similar courses that a plebe would take at the Naval Academy. The Admissions Board would expect to see you earn As and Bs in those classes; anything lower would hurt a candidates chances of receiving an appointment.

mightyrooster: I will second GA's post. They will want to see A's and B's in core classes- specifically, calculus and chemistry, in addition to english literature and a full load of credits (16 minimum).

A GPA of 3.8 on a college level is great- especially if that is reflective/inclusive of the cores in calc and chem. Athletics of any kind is also a good idea.

Best of luck! Hope you make it into the class of 2011!!!

Thanks for the advice!

There is also one problem that I foresee in the review board.

At the beginning of this semester, i was in the chemE curriculum and was taking the first CHE class. At that time, I had 18 hours (max at state). After about 3 weeks into the semester, I switched to nuclear engineering and dropped CHE. I was going to get into statics, but the prof said that it was too late to catch up. so now i only have 14 hours. will having such a light load hurt me?

(btw- 12 hours is considered a 'full time student' at state).

Thanks a lot!

mightyrooster825,

15 semester hours is the minimum course load required at the academy. If you are taking 14 hours, I wouldn't sweat it. Just make sure that you explain the course change situation in your application.

Good luck!
