there is no way you can say that those sat scores are low in any way. they are competitive at any level. that sat score really couldnt make or break a student at an incredibly competitive college. so it was either another factor, or just a roll of the dice...

The three most important admissions factors are 1) difficulty of curriculum 2) gpa/rank and 3) standardized test scores. These are considered within each unofficial "hook" category of URM, legacy, athlete, development case, and VIP. The 50% SAT Ranges for HYP is 1400-1580. Schools such as the other ivies, Duke, NU, and etc are close to this. Basically an unhooked applicants would have to have around a 1480 at the top 15 colleges before adcoms would even consider using the EC's, essays, recs to advance them. Being in a hooked category can be worth as much as 150-200 points on the SAT and this would put 1360 into the right range for those applicants. Of course 1360 is a fine score, but it is definitely not in the top 5% where admissions are made to the super-elite schools.</p>
