College Help?

Hey everyone, this is my first time positing on CC. I've read a lot of posts since they are really informative. I am a rising senior and am facing a pretty tough decision on schools. I am applying to UT Austin and Rice for Mechanical Engineering but am deciding if I should ED Rice or not since I feel that's the only way I'll be able to get in.

My Activites and Academics:

10.9% of my class (I go to a really really tough school)

3.6 GPA (out of 4) I take the hardest courses and took 2 APs in Junior Year (APUSH and English 3) an got 3s on both the exams (I sucked at both of those) and am going to take AP Gov/Econ, AP Calculus BC, AP English 4, AP Physics C, and AP Spanish 5.

I am in the Academy of Finance (A finance curriculum academy available at my school) (3 years)

Mu Alpha Theta- Math club at my school (2 years)

President of the Table Tennis Club (2 years) VP (1 year) and member (1)

President of Mustangs Without Borders-Organization geared towards helping charities (1 year) and VP (1 year)

Asian Student Association Treasurer (2 years)

Tennis Team Member (9th and 11th grades)

Unicef club member (2 years)

Memorial Mustangs Outreach Bunch-Volunteering Organization at my school- Member (2 years), Chair (1 year), and one of the VPs (1 year) (at least 30 hrs/year)

Participated in Business Professionals of America (Business Competition) regionals and qualified for state for Global Marketing Team- (1 year)

Volunteer at a Library for 4 years (Summers)- have about 30 hours

Played piano for 13 years

Had 160 hour internship at Infinite Biomedical Technologies (in Johns Hopkins) working with 3d printing models for products

Received APUSH (US History) award of excellence in my school (still don't know why I got a 3 on the AP)

SAT Math Level 2:720

SAT: 2140 Composite- 620 CR, 720 Writing (8/12 Essay), 800 Math

ACT: 33 Composite- 31 Math, 33 Reading, 33 Writing (10/12 Essay), and 36 Science

I'm looking to take the ACT (to bring up my math score) again and may take the SAT again.

I'm not a big partier but I heard both UT and Rice are pretty big party schools...

So should I ED Rice ME or just regular decision?

Right now I am definitely applying to UT, Rice, and A&M. Does anyone have any other suggestions on where I should apply?

Thanks a bunch!

in houston try university of houston too. Being in the top 10%, you’re obviously auto-accepted, and it’s cheaper by $10,000 for in-staters. given your test scores, you can even submit your application now; you’ll hear from them asap and you can enter their merit scholarship; the Tier One. apparently it may cover up to a full-ride.

The main thing about applying ED to Rice is can you afford to attend regardless of its Fin Aid offer to you? Otherwise you should apply RD. Other solid Engineering schools you can consider are GA Tech, Purdue (IN) , Rose Hulman (IN), UIUC (IL)

Yea I believe I can afford to attend Rice regardless. I just don’t know if I should commit there if UT has a better engineering program

What are my chances of making the UT honors Mechanical Engineering program?
