So i wanna go to the US for college .I’m a non US national and currently in grade 11.
My end of term grades have been varying between 91-93% with a gpa of 4/5.
I’m taking 4 AP courses and I expect a 1900 on my SAT.
What chances do I have of getting in a good uni that offers financial aid and scholarships to international students and isn’t very expensive.
Some names would be great.
Thanks.
Short answer: No. Not for top 40s. Unless you are a prodigy, you have no shots.
Reason: Low SAT score. What’s your reading and math score? Also GPA isn’t competitive enough.
If your math+CR is at least 1280~1400, you may get some merit scholarships around top 100 universities. What’s your GPA converted to American scale?
How much can you afford per year?
Is 91-93 in your country rare? or excellent? Or just pretty good but not that uncommon, what you’d expect from someone who wants to go to a university and succeed?
What extra curricular activities are you involved in?
Will you be able to take the SAT again? What about SAT Subjects?
What’s your parents’ budget? (This is often the #1 factor in determining where you should apply. If you can afford 25+K, you’ll have a lot of choices; 15-20k, you need full tuition; below 15k, it’s almost impossible).
What about colleges that have a selection rate of more than 50%
I don’t care about the rank.
91-93 is kinda common in my region.
Any my gpa in US scale is around 3.2.
We don’t really have any community or extra curricular services around here.
What about need based grants and scholarships ?
You need to create things you do beside go to school. If there’s nothing, you have to explain this… and then explain what you created for yourself. Otherwise, a job is acceptable. But colleges don’t admit students who sit at home after school.
3.2 is not very good for US HS students.
Look into Gustavus Adolphus, Earlham, Howard.
Need based scholarships and grants are limited to the very top applicants (perfect scores, perfect grades and perfect EC’s) and generally, most of those grants are only for US citizens only.
Yup, in short,
- you are not gonna get any need based scholarship
- you are not gonna get enough merit scholarship because your test score and GPA is not high enough. By the way,how do you know your GPA is 3.2 in US scale?
- therefore, going to US school is not a viable option
How much can you pay for college? There are schools in the US that cost under $20,000 per year to attend (Total COA).
UMaine Fort Kent would offer you the top merit scholarship 5K. There COA is about 20K so your final cost would be around 15k. It is on the Maine/Canadian border.
You could do a National Student Exchange and spend a semester in a different state to mix things up.
