College help?

I’m a rising senior and I’m in a time crunch to try and choose college’s that I think will be a good fit for me. I’m going to list some wants and hopefully someone will have suggestions!!

preferably in or close to (no more than an hour away from) Boston
liberal arts school with strong humanities program
school with a strong psychology or education program
dance offered as a minor or extracurricular
sat 1280
gpa 98.24 weighted
dance for 14 years
music and theatre for most of life
ITS, TRI-M, NHS
assistant dance teacher

any suggestions for schools would be very appreciated!! thanks!

Wheaton?

Budget? Have you run the NPC on any likely schools and if so what did it say?

Are you in-state for Massachusetts?

How much prep did you do for the SAT? What is your unweighted GPA?

Clark University (in Worcester) is strong in Psychology and about 1 hour from Boston.

budget would ideally be as cheap as possible. however, i am more than willing to take out loans if it meant a school that i loved. not in state unfortunately. minimal prep, i am currently preparing for august and october SATs. not sure what unweighted is, my school only does weighted.

thanks!

Within that hour radius, Stonehill College is the best fit I can think of for your requirements and stats. Your SAT is in their middle 50% range; you might get some merit for your high GPA. They have a dance minor and a dance company, and have education majors as well as psych.

All the same things are true of Providence College as well - it’s less than an hour if you take high-speed Acela train

For a more competitive option, Bennington would be a good high-match, with excellent dance and liberal arts, but no education major, and it’s 3 hours from Boston.

Simmons could be good but it seems a little sparse on the dance - they have a dance company but it seems to be a fairly new venture. Worth a look, though (if you’re female, that is).

You can only borrow ~$5500/year. How much can your parents pay?

Seconding Clark.
Your budget and EFC would help.
What state are your parents residents of?

Clark is very strong in psych but not very strong in dance, so it depends on your priorities.

Your numerical GPA sounds like you might be from New York. If so, don’t rule out SUNY Purchase, which is top-notch for dance and good for liberal arts generally, a great fit for your stats, and a great bargain in-state. (Even OOS wouldn’t be so bad at around $36K - getting private LAC’s down to that price with merit isn’t going to be that easy.) It’s about a 3 hour drive to Boston.
