My S is in the honors dorm at his college. He and his suitemates needed one more person to round out the suite assignment for next year and they wanted to pull in a friend who is NOT in the honors college.

All 4 boys went to the housing office and asked if it would be a problem if this one person was not in honors college. They were told that they could have "John" join them in the suite since all three honors boys agreed to having John in ther suite.

Note- John doesn't have the grades yet to make it into the honors college- he's trying but is a little short of the gpa.

When all 4 boys submitted the housing form, the person at the desk said that John couldn't be a part of the honors dorm and their choices are now-

get the suite without John and find another person,

Enter a lottery as a 4 person group and get assigned a room anywhere on campus- No choice on where you will be sent.

All 4 boys are extremely upset. The housing office isn't any help and say that it's written on the form they submitted, that non honors kids are not allowed in the honors dorm. It's too late to find another boy to fill out the 4th spot. The boys don't really want to enter the lottery- some of the other dorms are pretty horrid.

All 4 boys want to set up an appt with the director of housing to state their case, hoping the director will make an exception.

I've already told my son, that the chances of housing changing their mind is slim but if they feel that strongly, then they need to try. He's writing up their points this week while on break- the pros and cons, so we'll see how it goes.

Has anyone had a problem similar to this, or have any ideas on what to say to the housing director?
