Reality TV Crew from India Coming to Geneseo to Follow Prospective Students | SUNY Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. An Indian television production crew is coming to SUNY Geneseo next week to tape segments on campus for College Hunt: USA, a reality television show produced jointly by the U.S. Consulate General of the United States in Mumbai and Channel V, an international television network owned by Star TV and Fox International Channels.

Geneseo is one of three college campuses in the United States to be featured in the three-part show, projected to air later this year and reach some 25 million young adults in India who may be interested in attending college in the United States. Geneseo was selected as an exemplar of a mid-size public liberal arts college.

The crew will follow two prospective students from India for four days on the Geneseo campus a male and a female -- while they attend classes, visit with faculty and students, participate in student activities and visit local surroundings to get a sense of whether Geneseo is a good fit for their college education. The production company followed the same students visits to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Ohio Wesleyan University.

We are delighted to welcome these students and the College Hunt: USA team to Geneseo and greatly appreciate the support of the U.S. Consulates initiative, said Mary Hope, director of international student services at Geneseo. Its an ideal opportunity for them to sample life as a university student in the United States and for Geneseo to showcase some of its unique strengths. The international students on our campus have seen many successes, and we will continue to reach out to students from other countries like India interested in studying at Geneseo.

Geneseo has a growing international student community with 170 international students on campus from 30 countries, about 3 percent of the student body. Ten are from India. The college provides a variety of international student programming and activities and supports numerous cultural clubs.

The college also has several faculty members of Indian descent. In addition, at least two Geneseo faculty members have research interests focused on India; two of them spent time in India as Fulbright Scholars within the past five years.
