I'm currently a senior in high school, but I'm taking all of my courses at a local community college. I took General Bio I and II, Pre Calc and Calculus, English 101 and 102, I am going to Pitt after graduation. I want to pursue a career in medicine and apply to med school. Do med schools accept credits that were obtained while in high school.? They are not AP credits. I've heard the AP credits are sometimes not accepted. Is this the same for college classes taken during high school? Also, was it wise to take General biology at a community college instead of waiting until I went to a 4 year university?

Med schools do not accept HS credits. I would avoid taking core science classes at a community college. Med schools want to see you challenge yourself- and taking the easier route will be frowned upon.

If you received college credit for the CC courses, then they will be accepted by medical schools.

(A few med schools will not accept CC credits for any med school pre-reqs. Or will only accept them if supplemented by additional upper level coursework taken at a 4 year college.)

Co-enrollment coursework MUST be reported to AMCAS and any grades earned will be use in calculating your GPA.

When you apply thru AMCAS, you MUST supply original, official sealed transcripts from the CC in order for your application to be verified and submitted to medical schools for consideration.

so if you’re getting college credit, just be sure to take a more advanced bio class, stats (no one cares about more advanced calc), and an english class at Pitt. Not necessarily because it won’t be accepted, but because you want to prove you can excel at Pitt too.

I would add that you sound like an advanced math and science person.

You can continue on that track at Pitt too, and it may make sense to do so.

Check Harvard health sciences MD program, for example. They require multivariate calculus and linear algebra, molecular genetics and biochemistry. You would probably place into those classes based on your CC work, and it would also fulfill math and some bio/biochem requirements at basic MD schools.

You may also consider MD/PhD programs where your advanced course work at Pitt would be a real plus.

Think about getting some research experience at Pitt - it is a great pre-med choice and would be fine preparation for MD/PhD.

Thanks for the replies! They were all very helpful! I’ll be sure to take more advance science classes when I head to Pitt.
