Hi! NY parent here. I'll assume you really are considering Hostos and Talmudical Institute but that's a big stretch of schools to look at. So let's narrow it down. First fact --I don't think there are any dorms at any of the City Universities. Therefore if you are expecting to live "on campus" CUNY schools may not be the way to go. If you have family in NY or believe you can get housing, then you should check out City University schools. The web site is CUNY.edu. As per their website, Brooklyn College has a film major--Hunter has Cinema studies and if you check under "Digital Media Programs" there is a program at the Borough of Manhattan Comm. College. Brooklyn College is near an Orthodox Jewish Community- so if you have any connections to it, you may be able to find a place to live as there are no dorms at Brooklyn College. There are other CUNY programs, so check their website. Not so expensive schools with dorms and film programs--SUNY- Purchase.(part of State University of NY.) check out SUNY.edu. Also Montclair State- (New Jersey but just a quick train ride from Manhattan) Check out their School of the Arts --they have a Film and Video program. Visual Arts is a great school but quite expensive. Good luck.
