<p>Cornell College of Mount Vernon, Iowa has off-campus interviews scheduled for a variety of cities. </p>
<p>I find it humorous when colleges send me mail about these. The closest ones to "my area" are usually at least a 90 minute drive. Craziness.</p>
<p>I've attended sessions here in my town ("here" meaning up to a half-hour drive away) at which attendees have come from neighboring states. I think the calculation is that it is more convenient to drive, say, across half a state than across half the country to visit the college in person. </p>
<p>It would be interesting to know how colleges develop their lists of what cities to visit. I live in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country, but not all colleges visit here, even if they visit cities much more distant from their campuses.</p>
