Hey guys, maybe I'm being a little paranoid, but I accidentally signed up to attend two different information sessions, one by Dartmouth and one by Emory, on the same day. Their times overlap, so I'm gonna have to choose one over the other, and I'm thinking I'm gonna choose Dartmouth. I already RSVPed. I've never gone to any of these before. Do they check for names to see if you actually came?

Just cancel the other. If this is not an option online, call or email. Stress that you are rescheduling, not just canceling. Oh, and not mentioning you picked another school over this one is a good idea.

yes they do keep track of who shows up. and in those schools where level of applicant’s interest is considered, it does count to show up.

griffen: you’re mistaken. Emory is not the kind of school that will give a flip. Neither is Dartmouth. No one goes over a list of names. That’s baloney.

tikiman: here’s what you do: go to the D’mouth session. Then stop by the Emory one and ask for materials and the presenter’s business card. Tell him/her that you regret not being able to sit in on the session b/c Emory is definitely on your list. Tell him/her you’ll look over the info and would it be OK to contact them via email if you have any questions not answered in the brochures.

FWIW Emory’s common data set states that level of applicant’s interest is very important. Dartmouth’s says level of applicant’s interest is not important. In the schools where level of applicant’s interest is considered, it does count to show up.

I already emailed them and told them that I am sorry, but something came up and unfortunately, I cannot make the information session. And that hopefully there was enough time for my spot to be filled by two other people. And I added that I hope to see them in the future at another information session
