how much does it help to show interest in a college, for example signing up for their online information things and have them email their college information to you and talking with the regional representatives of your area for the college you want to apply to, like how much does all of this “interest” in the school help your admissions chances?

I think the fact that you're writing this question tells me that you realize it does matter. It won't make or break your application, but it will help the college to understand that you are serious about them

oh...so it doesnt really help ur admissions chances at all? i always kinda thought that if u showed a lotta interest the adboard would be like oh this guy really wants to come here so we'll give him a little more consideration?

bump.........

It does not...browsing through several college sites, such as Duke, UNC, and Yale..that question is a very common question asked. According to them it does not do anything to help or hurt you in the admission process.

It can matter, sure. Colleges like to know you really care about them, and that you're not just applying for the sake of applying. It can also help you avoid Tufts syndrome at some schools.

I have heard that Emory gives applicants "points" if they send back an interest card. I'm sure it happens commonly enough for you to just do it for most of your schools, but then again, you are interested in them already, so you want to know about them. Dont' expect it to do much at the top 20 or 30, but again, do it where you're interested.
