1) I could only get an interview with a general college admissions counselor instead of one from Annenberg (USC) specifically , should I still do it?
2) does it help with admissions at all?i was hoping an interview will push my over the edge. I am a fairly good candidate (29 ACT, 4.13 W, 3.9 UW, multiple leadership positions in clubs, varsity sport, black, etc) but compared to the the 2014 USC decisions thread I am shit lol
3) if I were to do it, any tips? Should I bring a portfolio? Should I bring tapes/copies of me anchoring on my school news program? (It is very professional/ broadcast journalism is what I want to go into)
4) thanks! Anything helps! Oh and my interview is oct 25

Which sounds discouraging, but there is another interpretation. Interviews are self-selected. They don’t randomly assign people to required interview or no interview. It is possible that many of those deciding to interview are ones with a lower probability of getting in, but by having the interview (and doing well) they improve their chances to equal that of more confident applicants that decline the interview.

As for tips, practice, practice, practice! A college interview is much like a job interview with open-ended questions (eg “Tell me about yourself”) which are covered in any book about how to interview. You have about a month to prepare so I suggest getting a book on interviewing, then having your friends, parents, and anyone else you can corral do mock interviews with you so that your real interview isn’t the 1st time you go thru it.

Lastly, I also suggest you also apply to the much better rival across town ;-)
