College interview

Hi

I got an email from an alum of M&T asking for an interview

few questions

Does everyone get asked for an interview?
does the interview proceed based on your essays and things put on the aplication or what I aspire/chose UPenn?
also, there arent any M&T alum in my area so it has to be done through skype, so do you guys have any tips for skype interviews? i've never used skype

First, everyone who applies for M&T gets an interview. Second, the interview does proceed based on yourself. The interviewer will likely ask you about your ECs, other interests, and, of course, why penn (among other personal questions). I’ve never had an interview, so I can’t help you with your last question.

about the Skype part -
i got an interview with penn but not through Skype. letting the interviewer know that it’s ur first time using Skype might be a nice way to break the ice and would also let him/her know you’re new and thus unfamiliar with this. if ur going to use video, position yourself so that the interviewer could see your face clearly but don’t let your face take up half the screen. that’s just too close. if ur only using voice, feel free to take some time to think a little. say ‘um’ or whatever idiosyncrasies you prefer if you think brief silences are too awkward. in any case, don’t always rush to answer the question. after all, the interviewer can’t see your movements, facial expressions, etc.

good luck (:

The interviewer will only know your name and nothing else on your application.
