Princeton son ??
Yes.
Guess that shows the importance…to them.
Some may think he declined the chance. He’s not interested. Cut him.
But then they don’t do DI so no harm.
TheIr CDS does say considered for interview.
Their website though says no disadvantage to not interview so they are true to the word.
There is no question of lack of interest if that is your one EA school
Penn CDS says they are “important”…but Penn’s literature literally says they try to offer interviews to all candidates… but the reality is they don’t and can’t due to lack of interviewers. They also state that not getting an interview (probably because of the lack of interviewers in a region) will not be held against an applicant…these appear to be contradictory statements. It’s important but wont be held against you if you don’t get one doesn’t make sense.
Without access to their specific data it’s hard to say. I’m sure people have been admitted without an interview and yes people with poor interviews have still been admitted giving some proof that they really are “probably not” important.
This is directly from Penn literature.
"Alumni interviews serve a three-fold purpose:
- they are an incredible way for alumni to stay engaged with the university;
- they allow applicants to learn more about the school from an informed and engaged alumnus; and
- they provide Penn Admissions with information about the applicant that might not appear in the student’s application (their personality, passions, and potential fit)."
Many would argue that the first point is the most important reason for interviews which may or may not lead to alumni contributions. Unless the interviewer is a recent grad, applicants will not learn a great deal from an alumni who is not actively involved with the university outside of their interviewing duties so the second point is not completely true. Point three may be true but how much does the admission committee care especially if individuals who have poor interviews still get admitted.
