So... I've participated in 3 interviews so far, and I have a question. My interviewers have been extremely friendly and dynamic people, but I never seem to get an indication afterwards of how the interviewer perceived me. I read many threads about how interviewers tell students things like, "You're a great match for _____!" and "That was an excellent interviewer."

I'm a shy person but I always end up opening up in the interviewer and I have few regrets about the manner in which I respond to questions. I wouldn't change anything, but this lack of feedback makes me feel like I should.

^Not really. That depends a lot on your interviewer. Some can say explicitly “you are a great match”, while others just say “you would do good at _" or "I was just like you by the time I was applying to ”. It can be tricky sometimes to realize what the interviewer really thinks about you.

About asking a feedback, I wouldn’t do that. It can show some uncertainty and make you look insecure. Try to tell the person as much as you can about you; go as deep as you can into their simple questions like “Why _?". When I was asked "why _?”, I told the interviewer part of my story and my passions, until I reached the point where everything mingled to create an interest to go to that instiution.

Don’t worry about what he/she might think of you, just be 100% yourself.

Thank you. I would never ask for feedback. I was just wondering if it was unusual to not receive feedback. Almost everybody I encountered said that there was some indication of how the interview went afterwards. After 3 interviews, I have yet to receive feedback, positive or negative. I know my thinking is based on anecdotal evidence, but I still think it’s reasonable to inquire.

I didn’t recieve any feedback immediately, and my interview for my top choice was in october. However, yesterday I recieved a nice email from my interviewer with a follow-up answer to one of my questions and she told me she highly recommended me in her report.

I didn’t get any feedback at the interview though. Only now, three months later. :)

The first interview I had this year went well. The interviewer was really relaxed and we had a great conversation. I feel like I had a chance to tell him the things I wanted to say (my resume, why I want to major in this, why I love Georgetown, etc) and we even told a few jokes along the way. At the end he said he would write me a “glowing letter” and that he thought I was the best candidate he had ever seen.

Come December 15th - and a deferment letter from Georgetown awaited me in the mail.

Guess it just goes to show that the interview isn’t everything!

I was the same way as you (shy at first, ect.) and didn’t receive any feedback, other than “It was nice to meet you” and things like that. Worked out well though, accepted to one interviewer’s school SCEA and still waiting for reply on other’s. I think it’ll just depend on the interviewer. :)
