College is not about learning

It's about applying everything you've learned in your life to frame your outlook of the world. Consider this: most colleges have an agenda. Some want to preach religion and morals. Others want to get minorities degrees. Some others try to intellectually tear us down so their students can someday have the prestige of attending a famous school. I can skip lectures and never study and still get A's. I learn about what my professors teach through resources other than them. I am in one political science class that is lectured by a feminist and all of the TAs are feminists. I am in an international relations class lectured by an Asian and two South Koreans are the TAs. These are environments that are not conducive to learning more, but to indoctrinate me. Everything today is biased and I am unable to decide things for myself because what I am taught is coming subjectively from a set agenda. Am I right?

No… 10 char

I normally just lurk these forums, but your post actually forced me to make an account just so I can tell you that you are wrong. So there you go.

lolno

10char

Nah, bro. 10char

Congratulations on discovering the world-wide conspiracy. We weren’t going to tell you about it but you caught us. Yes, everyone is conspiring together to indoctrinate into their world view, not because they think a topic is interesting and want to share it with others.

Seriously, congrats. You need a medal.

No. Good try though!

YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!

J/K you’re totally wrong

-facepalm-

Sometimes i do so wonder about people…

LOL NO

Ha. Actually this would be a lot more funny if people didn’t actually believe this kind of crap.

Go to a better school. Or take better classes.

Everything he said is 100% correct, except everything he said.

ughhhhhhhhhh

switch to engineering.

…and you’re point…

You’re point.
I’m point
He/she/it is point.
We’re point.

A school might have an agenda, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that every professor is going to follow it. Many private colleges have religious affiliations, but at many of them the professors do not all belong to that particular faith. You also have to research departments and colleges before attending them - the political science department at my school was fairly liberal, while the business department was very conservative (in regards to professors’ personal views/teaching slants).

And it sounds great that you have feminists, Asians, and other varieties of faiths, races, cultures, etc. teaching you…your views would be far more narrow if all of your profs/TAs were the same race, religion, political affiliation, and so on.

College is largely about regulation of proclaimed skills. Yes, we can teach ourselves the same material…but who is to say we actually would? Who is to say we would retain any of it without testing and writing papers? We could all run around and claim to be psychologists after reading one book on Freud if it weren’t for college programs ensuring (or at least trying to ensure) that students actually know what they’re talking about before entering a career.

Of course, I also believe college is about broadening one’s mind and learning about far more than just your major field of study - if you only want to learn one thing, go to a trade school. A well-rounded education helps people to adapt to changes more easily, make educated decisions about issues that are not work-related, and lead more healthy, thoughtful, productive lives.

Also, many profs enjoy a good debate, so if you disagree with their views feel free to respectfully challenge them either during class discussion or during office hours.
