Oh yeah, smile away and save that! My son smiled over MIT. Funny thing was he wasn’t interested in any of the Ivy League and he didn’t like Stanford. His first choice was Berkeley and that’s where he is going. Good luck to you. This is when all the hard work and sleepless nights are worth it. Have fun getting all the exciting mail and enjoy every minute of your senior year!

Well, yes. Exactly. It means that you made the cut for whatever level of SAT score (etc) they are interested in. It doesn’t mean they care about YOU.

momfirst3, thanks for the words of encouragement! Junior year was especially tough for me as I took as extreme courseload, but knowing that it will pay off (and letters from Ivies, etc!) have helped keep me going. Thank you!

Pizzagirl, I know they don’t care about me specifically. When it comes down to it, it is still a mass-mailing. But I now know I can at least read a little into getting letters from higher-tier schools – that is, I’m at least on the fringe of their demographic, if nothing else.

My son took 13 AP classes throughout high school, so I hear you about junior year… Hang in there. It will all be worth it in the end.
