I didn’t hate high school…it was high school. I’m not really nostalgic about it. I’m in graduate school now – just finished my first year – and I only stay in contact with two people from high school, and one of them is my fiance. All of my other friends are from college and beyond. (I’m not counting Facebook.)

I don’t miss it a bit. Sometimes we joke about stuff that happened there, the same way you joke about getting drunk at a party or something.

I miss high school sometimes because I miss the small classes and the friendships. As well as all the fun we had in class… I think I had some really great teachers.
College is just not the same… you sit in a lecture hall every single day and don’t say a word.

We’ll all look back at high school one day and think back about what we should have done and this moment and that moment. But then most will just say it’s over, too late to change anything. Learn from your mistakes and smile at the moments. Just roll with it.

You gotta roll with it
You gotta take your time
You gotta say what you say
Don’t let anybody get in your way
'Cause it’s all too much for me to take

Don’t ever stand aside
Don’t ever be denied
You wanna be who you’d be
If you’re comin’ with me

Oasis :)

And btw, easton722, you don’t happen to be from Easton, MA?

i missed my high school friends while i was away at school. i’m glad to spend time with them now. but i don’t think that means i miss the school part of high school. that kind of sucked.
i have a lot of dreams that take place in high school…

I don’t really miss the classes and other aspects of high school, but I just miss being in high school. I feel like college sometimes can put a huge weight on your shoulders.

Nope. Hs was a lot more dramatic, and big brother ish. I still chill with hs friends when I come home, but I find myself hanging w/college friends more, bc they’re less dramatic. Hs was too long in terms of 8hrs a day, there were a lot of silly rules and it was repetative. I like college a lot more, less time in class, more challenging, more intersting and more fun.

Like mathboy98, the biggest thing I miss about high school was competitive sports. I didn’t have the drive/work ethic/desire to try to compete on my university’s track team, except in maybe the 800m, which I despise. I miss the thrill of competition and representing my school whle a dozen of my friends cheer me on.

Other than that, I also miss popcorn chicken caesar salad day. I also miss taking art class. And physics. There was more room to dabble in courses in high school. No strict sequences and pre-reqs and major restrictions on courses.

Nope…My high school felt like a prison. I do miss some of my high school teachers. I still talk with some but haven’t kept in contact with any students.

I can honestly say no. I had a great time in high school but I dreaded
-the pre-determined structure/path of classes you had to take.
-waking up at 6AM to make it to class by 8AM.
-Busy work aka useless worksheets with menial tasks that lazy teachers pushed off on students when they didn’t make a proper lesson plan.
-the silly rules like “no coffee”. It’s 8AM. Why can’t I bring in coffee?!
-BLOCK classes. Seriously 1hour30mins for each class was torture.
-My high school’s lunch was only 45 minutes. :blank stare:

There is one thing that reigns supreme in college over high school and that is FREEDOM.

I love college a billion more times than I ever liked high school. However, I do miss how simple things were back then. I knew that if I just went through the motions, got good grades, did some good ECs, and put in some effort, I’d get into a good college (and it happened). Now I’m half way through college, am studying a lot harder than I did in high school to get not as good grades, doing the EC/internship thing, and still have no idea where it’s going to get me after I graduate. I might get a job, go to law school, or graduate school. Or I might be unemployed with nothing to do. At least after high school you know you can always go to community college and sort stuff out there. After college there;s a lot of uncertainty and it’s a little scary not knowing where I’ll be after I graduate.

While there were very few courses I found interesting in high school, I did enjoy going to class. We would mess around, talk, have fun, etc in many of them. Playing pranks on teachers and students makes the day go by so much faster. In college I love the material a lot more, but in a boring class you can’t talk or play paper football.

I do miss:
being able to take more sick days in HS–missing a college lecture is much more serious (I hate taking others’ notes).

short walks between classes (in college, I now have to walk practically three miles a day–good for weight loss, though)
little to no homework, less time spent studying for tests (I could start 2 days before any test, even AP, and be sure to get an A--now, you have to start a week before the test)

I don’t miss:

block classes–way too long
scheduled lunches
8-3:30 classes

I miss the fact that all the IB kids at my high school basically took the same classes at the same time. As a result, I ended up with a fairly large circle of bright, fun friends. In college, that kind of closeness isn’t there in class. I can always try to meet new people in my courses, but it’s not quite the same feeling as going through all four years of high school with a large group of your friends all the time. There was a lot of direct friendly competition and it drove us all to be very good students who were also involved in many EC’s. I also miss the short walks between classes.

The last thing I miss was the feeling of being known. There just weren’t as many students, and so everything was just so tight-knit… I was valedictorian as well, and so everybody knew me. In college, I feel kind of like a cog in a machine. Everyone else here is smart as well… it’s a lot harder to stand out. Speaking out of pure ego, I do miss that aspect to high school.

However, I do not miss the fact that transportation was a huge issue. I never had my own car, and so I’d always have to bum rides off of people, which was a big hassle. In college, everything’s just a train ride away. I have never had the need to use a car in the cities, although I can see how it would be nice to have one. I also didn’t have a whole lot of money in high school, and so paying for things was a lot harder.

But the freedom in college does not make me miss high school much at all. I choose how I want to spend my time. It’s funny to think back on all the restrictions my parents had for me regarding computer usage/getting to bed/curfews/whatever… I’ve almost forgotten what it was like.

I found miss high school so much. I went to a very small, wealthy, well respected high school that had repute for being one of the best in the nation, and I miss it everyday. I moved to the other side of the country for college, and I would give anything to go back to school. I know that one day I won’t miss it as much, but right now I do. As I mentioned my high school was pretty competitive grade wise- to the point that if you were open enrolled with a GPA below a 3.0 you weren’t welcomed back, and had to find a different school. We had a really good AP program, and you really got to know everyone by name, even those who were in different years. I miss the small classes. Feeling like the teachers genuinely care for you, and the honesty. Students in my high school were really straight forward, and honest. If they didn’t like you they’d ignore you, and things would be awkward. That rarely happened, but it was a way to ensure that people were being open with you. Now that I’m in college the gossip and cattiness has gotten a lot worse, which is ironic. Girls will be really nice to your face, but the moment you turn your back they’re gossiping about how much they hate you. I feel like it was a lot easier to get close to people in high school, because everyone came from the same background. People didn’t have to try to impress each other, and everything was more real. I’m not sure if words can aptly describe how much I miss high school. I feel like it was a lot more like what college is supposed to be like than what I’m currently doing. I know I had a lot more control over which classes I took when I was there than I do now. People seem less mature now than they did back in high school.

absolutely! Minus the walking up early, my high school provided such an amazing experience. Plus my graduating class was pretty close and we had such amazing school spirit. Unlike at my current college which gives me none of that…
