College Kids' Spring Break Plans

Hunt: Mine will trade with any of yours. He’s having his wisdom teeth (and four other teeth) removed.

Ouch. That sounds like a huge amount of oral surgery. I’m so sorry. D found that Jamba Juice smoothies (eaten with a spoon, not a straw) were pretty comforting starting the second day after surgery, but import to skip any of the ones with raspberry or strawberry – those little seeds can really jam in an incision, and it isn’t fun getting them out.

I’m another one whose son is going to Cancun in a couple of weeks. His roommate’s parents have a time share, that includes breakfast and happy hour. Am I happy about this? No, but he is paying for it with his summer earnings, so I didn’t feel like I could really complain. I am happy that he was able to figure out how to get a passport all by himself (other than me sending him his original birth certificate – I wonder if I ever will see that again?).

My kids will be cleaning the house.

Thanks for the tip–he has a friend who’s telling him that a surefire way to prevent swelling is to eat half a pineapple the day before the surgery. I can’t see any harm in this, I guess. I’m not saying anything about it, because I don’t want to upset the placebo effect.

My freshman son will come home and fly with us and his younger sister to the Yucatan. We have always traveled a lot as a family and the kids really look forward to our trips. I rented a condo on the beach. Lots of snorkeling, scuba diving if we wish. He says he’ll have to work on a paper and the condo has wifi.

Last winter, my son had, unfortunately, all four wisdom teeth out as the 7th of 7 procedures (and the wisdom teeth extraction might have been the least painful of the procedures). He lived on smoothies, flan, chicken soup (and pain killers).

Amazingly, both D & S have the same week off. We’re headed to FL – a couple days on either end of the trip with H’s parents, but the major portion on North Captiva Island. No cars; arrival by plane (not us) or boat (us); on island transportation by golf cart; endless beaches, etc. All good EXCEPT I just check the Verizon coverage map – no service! Yikes! Hope I remember how to use a calling card. No wifi in our rental, but available at the Clubhouse. Hoping for warm beach weather.

D and I will be visiting grandmother on Sanibel the weak before en route to a college visit. I’m sure you’ll have a great time on North Captiva. I’ve always wondered what it was like.

"Hoping for warm beach weather. "

I’m already praying to the sun gods…for those of you northerners travellng south, care to join me?

Yep, for Sanibel, but I can’t imagine I’ll need much praying for Akumal.

I’m in!! Been doing that for the last week.

S1 will spend every waking moment cleaning the barn or preparing for his upcoming annual livestock herd production sale. He will enjoy every minute of it, PLUS it’s supposed to be 45-47 degrees…yeah!

S2 plans to work at least 50 hours at his regular part-time job.

I plan for them to move an insanely heavy antique wardrobe to the basement!!

Are my kids old before their time or what?
