College life for international Student who plays basketball at a top academic LAC in Boston

I live in Switzerland and will enroll at a top LAC in Boston this fall. I am a clever student but not someone who will revise for 10 hours straight. Rather lazy…

Basketball is only played at D3 level but I will take it rather seriously since I have been on a professional team in Europe. I want to double major in Mathematics and quantitative Economics. At least that is what I want atm…

Will it be very stressful? Enough time to enjoy boston, party life etc. ?

Thank you for your help!

I think it would be very difficult to play basketball and double major in two demanding subjects. I think your party life will be quite limited.

Tufts is not a LAC.

@TomSrOfBoston schhhh…

Forget about basketball.

Well, if you’re rather lazy, you’ll have to shape up very quickly.
You’ll likely have 3 hours of class each day, 6-7hours of prep (library work, research, reading, writing, study group…), 3 hours of training/sports-related time.
On weekends obviously it’ll be basketball + whatever you do for fun from Friday night till Sunday, and Sunday catch up on hours of work from 1pm until 1 am. You’ll also have to be careful about your alcohol intake level since you’re not allowed to drink and this will be controlled (since all freshmen drink and freshmen don’t know how to, resulting in lower performance and poor behavior which reflect poorly on the college. Hence the need to monitor them).
All in all, will there be time for parties and visiting Boston? On weekends, absolutely. During the week? Do so at your own risk.
Keep in mind that the first exam typically ruins freshmen’s GPA when they’ve been out partying their first few weeks, not realizing the level of academics expected of them. You don’t want to be one of them. Party as much as you like on weekends, explore the city, have fun - but from Sunday night until Friday afternoon, focus on your studies and basketball only.

I can’t think of a top LAC in Boston, do you mean in Massachusetts?

**He means Tufts from his posting history. As I pointed out above Tufts is not a LAC.

okay I see.
Thanks!

@nillew888: what are your current predicted scores for A-Levels (or BTech or Scottish Highers)?
