People have been asking how college life is @ UCSB, well from my point of view, it's the best experience i've ever had. School is excellent as well as the social life. If you want to see the weekends @ UCSB check this out www.zorpia.com/irishamerican That should give you a picture of how the weekends are aside from the weekdays. Weekdays can get pretty crazy as well but the schoolwork they give here is pretty intense! G-luck

pretty sweet. i want to go there (ucsb) for the surf/fun but my dad wont let me apply cuz he thinks i'll party too much and fail out. can u give me reasons (so i can tell him) why i should go to ucsb? thanks. [major: engineering}

Ok so I see that you are an engineering major, all I can say is that's the strongest major here @ UCSB and the most competitive to get into. The engineering program here is intense and there are alot of outside programs affiliated with the major. Aside from UCSB having THREE nobel prize winners in the past two years (2 in physics and 1 in economics) all other aspects of academic life here is phenomonal. I'm actually a transfer student from UCSD and I can say that I don't regret the move I made at all. I mean, yea the parties here can get pretty out of hand but hey, it's college! This is a true college atmosphere, the beach, world renowned professors, great social life, great college town (Isla Vista)...I mean what more can you want out a college experience. If your dad won't let you apply b/c of the parties, then I wouldn't know what to tell you. If he trusts you enough to know that you'll get you business done here, then there should'nt be a problem. It's not that hard to say no to a party here, there's just too many to ever be missing out on anything. One thing I've noticed here @ this school is that the majority of the people get their studies done b4 they go out....that's just the way it works usually. So I wish you luck in all that you do and I hope YOU make the decision on where you want to spend the next 4 years of your life.

If you're mainly going for the surf/fun, you're going for the wrong reasons. It's expected that your Dad wouldn't want you to go if all you're going to do is party.

If you're going in as an Engineering major, I can tell you now that your time will be pretty limited. I'm speaking as a student from the Engineering dept. Grips of people drop out from the dept in the first year.

hey! some questions.
1) was it hard to transfer from UCSD to UCSB?
2) was it hard adjusting to the campus/making friends and getting to parties when you transferred?

thanks! i am a freshman at UCSD and i hate it!

why do you hate UCSD?

-Ugly girls AND guys
-Most anti-social school in California
