His Stats are as follows , He wants to pursue a degree in electrical engineering

H.S. GPA - 3.0

Please Make a list of colleges he should apply to .
Ignore commenting on the Work hard part as I too had told him many times (Useless) . His parents are worried . Also try and suggest ways in which he can improve his chances of getting in to a decent college

Those SATs are really low. Could you say anything more about what he needs (or instill enough motivation in him to come and ask himself)? It’s hard to give advice with that little info.

By the way, please don’t bump threads every five minutes. Limit yourself to 3 a day.

I am sorry about the Bump

Well he needs a college that would provide a good engineering degree ( basically Electrical)

His parents are ready to pay the full ride and the location doesn’t matter either

A university with a good prestige and job placement facility is preferred .

What other details do you require ? … This is all he has ( His school doesnt rank )

he doesn’t have a computer at his home ( as they are shifting their house ) .

How about Alfred University? They have EE and he might be able to get accepted.
It is in Princeton Review’s “Best 368”
USNWR’s “Great Schools Great Prices”
USNWR’s “Master’s Universities-Northern”

What size school does he prefer?

I don’t know any schools, but why isn’t he doing the research? It’s where he is going for the next four year, not you. No offense though.

Maybe he needs to be pointed in the right direction! I find it rather fun to help people out myself & make suggestions!

I like helping people to, but I think the person who wants to go to college needs to do some research!

I am really sorry . I am just a friend who is trying to help him out ( mostly because of his family … I feel sad for them … they look into my eyes with so much hope … that I will be able to help them out … an thats what i am doing) … where as the person ( my friend) is concerned … he is not dumb
He just doesn’t study… He thinks hanging out with his friends is more important than studies and doesn’t care about the money his parents work so hard to earn.

Now his parents and I are trying and looking for a good college for him to go . Being an international student ( I am currently going to join University of Toronto this year … and haven’t visited it yet) … The place doesn’t matter … It will take time but he will adjust ( After all we are Indians =) ) … The size to doesnt matter …

Please specify some colleges he should apply to … Please also specify ways in which he can get into a good university . ( i have convinced him to do the SAT again … but for now according to the above data please specify)

By the way he was thinking about Rutgers !

look at Clemson University though the GPA and SAT scores may be a little low

Thank you … but any safeties , and What should be his reaches ?

A great safety school for electrical engineering is New Mexico Institute Of Mining & Technology. One of the best engineering schools in the country (graduates come out earning a starting salary of around $60,000), it’s easy to get into also.

His stats are a match for my Post #7

other schools to look at include Texas A&M and Purdue which are good engineering schools but not as hard to get into, might be a reach/match

It’s ok Sharjeel, I think its great that your helping him out! I just think he should have some interest in his own eduction.

I’m not familiar with the grading system in India. How has he done in school?

NM Tech is a great school, but its acceptance rate isn’t that high. Maybe a match or low reach…

The University of New Mexico, University of Utah, and Oregon State University all have decent engineering programs (well, maybe not UNM) and are easy to get into. Maybe add Arizona State University as well.

New Mexico Institute Of Mining & Technology gives out scholarships to students who have at least a 3.0 GPA and a 970 SAT so your friend would definitely get in. I think though that while it is easy to get into, it is the best fit for your friend academically. The school is also VERY affordable, most public schools cost $20,000+ for tuition a year but NMT only costs $12,000/year
