College list - help :(

I'm pretty unsure as to where I want to go, and as I'm entering my senior year and still have basically no idea I'm looking for some opinions.

My SAT score falls around 2000, however my GPA is... crap. I believe it's around an 87? I took harder classes and got the C's instead of the easier ones for the quick A's, and I hope the colleges I apply to are able to see that.

Anyway, I already know I want to become a lawyer,(ha) but since there is basically no major for law undergrad, I'm really uncertain what I should study. I was considering business until I realized how much math(my worst subject) plays a role in the courses for it. I've been told to take something I can do well in, since law schools rely heavily on grades for admission.

I'd prefer to stay in the north-east, and I'm not looking to spend a crazy amount since I do plan on going to law school as well. Some schools I've been looking at are SUNY Geneso, SUNY Binghamton and The University of Vermont, but that's only 3...

So any recommendations are welcome! Thank you.

E: I forgot to add that my school does not give class rankings, which makes my search more difficult.

What can your family afford? What is your home state?

You probably have to apply ED to Geneso or Binghamton to increase your chances. Your GPA is low for either of them, however hard is your course load.

Have you considered political science as a major?

@Erin’s Dad I would say less than 30k a year, but less is better obviously and that’s why I’m looking into SUNY schools.

@PCHope I understand that and that is my main problem, along with the lack of clubs and activities I did during high school, I shouldn’t have listened to those damn people who told me to take harder courses.

@Aerobug I’m thinking some along those lines. My strengths are in English and writing, any other ideas for majors?

EE- Nobody responded about schools :(

What is your home state?

There is a pre law major… It may not be the best major out there, but it’s still a law prep major. Personally, I’m majoring in Political Science and I hope to become a lawyer some day.

I believe I’ve read that pre-law majors (and there are few schools which offer that) do worse than other majors. You can major in anything you want for pre-law, as long as you can develop a rigorous thought process and it helps you prepare for the LSAT. You also want good UG grades.

I know a friend who majored in computer science and is now going to Drexel for patent law. Erin’s Dad is right - hone your mind, and everything else will follow (with dedication, of course)

Yes, pre law majors as a whole do not score as well. But that is only because pre law majors include a variety of people who have an interest in law, and with more people comes a larger range of scores.
