Hi. I am a rising senior so I have been planning my preliminary college list. I categorized safety, target and reach but I’m not sure if I categorized correctly. Could you help or tell me how my list looks so far?
PS I want to go to school in california which is why most schools are in cali.
Safety:
UC Riverside
University of San Francisco
UCSC
Target:
UC: SD, Davis, SB, Irvine
Purdue or Georgia Tech (reach)
Calpoly
University of Washington
Reach:
UC: Berkeley, LA
Harvard
Stanford
Cornell
USC
Here are my stats:
UW GPA: 3.92
W GPA: 4.50
ACT: 32
Top 10% of class
Also thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I greatly appreciate it.
Ivy Leagues are a bit of a Pandora’s box. They are good where they are: a reach.
I think you need to lend yourself a little bit more credit on schools like USC, UCLA. Your ACT is well within the mid 50%, and your GPA is stellar.
Move them to target.
Can you help me out on my thread: “Test Score Threshold Yale SCEA”
Cheers
Are you from california? If you are you might have to move some UCs around. If you are, I’d probably move UCLA to target. i’d still probably move USC to target as well, maybe even Cornell (people get hung over the fact that it’s an ivy league school without realizing that that term doesn’t even mean anything). All the others seem fine, except I’d move Purdue and CalPoly as safeties.
UCSF is a grad school, no undergrad. UCLA in my opinion is pretty random so while he has the stats for UCLA, last year they rejected so many high-stat applicants because over 110,000 people applied.
What are you majoring in? Are you applying anywhere during the early round?
If you are OOS for the UC’s, expect to pay around $55K/year with little to no financial aid. The tuition is expected to increase another 8% over the next few years for OOS students.
You need to calculate your UC GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Based on your posted Stats, you have a good chance at all the schools listed except for Harvard and Stanford which are Reaches for everyone. Good Luck.
Thanks. I am in state so cost won’t be that high.
Personally, I would put the UC’s and Cal Poly(SLO I’m assuming) in a grab bag category. I’m from CA also(and an uprising senior) and a lot of my friends who were seniors last year and very qualified for the UC’s were rejected. I also had another friend who was under qualified for Cal Poly, but she got it. This is just my opinion though.
@rdeng2614 I am not sure but probably majoring in computer science, or computational biology. Btw University of SF is different from UCSF.
