I need help with a college list! My GPA is 3.81 (weighted, but thats all my school tells us?) with rank 23/206 (I'm ONE person off the top ten percent right now). I got an 1850/2400 on the SAT's but I'm retaking them in October and I'm going to try to break a 2000..I have a tough class load, all honors and AP throughout high school.

I like schools in both the city and not.. my list so far:

Northeastern University (my top choice!!)
Suffolk University
Boston University
Umass-Amherst

What is your situation regarding college costs and financial aid? If you like Northeastern, look at some other co-op type schools. I believe Drexel has such programs. Kettering in Michigan is another such school.

Cost is not much of an issue.. my parents said they will figure it out and do everything they can. Just to get into the schools and we go from there

Do you have any particular subject interests? Environment and atmosphere? There's too many schools to list that would fit your stats and "just about anywhere."

I want a real college experience with activities and campus life..not too small of a school (5,000+), in a town/city (not the west coast!).. I'm really just looking.

I know Suffolk doesn't fit this much at all, but I loved it when I visited.

Sounds like you've wonderful parents. Not to quibble or redirect you in any way, but at today's costs, while your parents are willing, and perhaps fully able?, to take on the financial responsibility of your choice, is that what you'd want? You and they will do as you will and is necessary for them, but this may be one of those growing up moments where you determine to say, "part of the responsibility is mine" since you've no idea as yet. And I'm not talking about merely tuition/costs. That's but half of the equation since a great many institutions both public and private significantly subsidize students they deem worthy, attractive to their needs.

Knowing more about that aspect will help to better define your choice. At present you only have about 3,500 options, give or take a few hundred in AZ up to WA.

My parents are not near able to fully pay for college at all. They just want me to focus on the school part and not the tuition part..being as we take out loans and get scholarships as need be. I also work a job about 20-30 hours a week. I just meant in general that as I'm searching for schools, they told me to find the ones I like and that we will try and find a way to pay for it all. I also have UMass on the list because of my state testing scores, I recieve free tuition, even though I really do not want to go to UMass.

I know there are quite a bit of options.. it's just weird because I have a lot of variety in what I am looking for. I like colleges in the city (especially, as you can tell, Boston). But I wouldn't mind going in a small city/town as I am somewhat considering University of Illinois- U/C. I know I just don't want to go to a tiny school in the middle of nowhere. I also know I don't want to go in Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont. But a school with a nice campus (again, I know suffolk doesn't have much of a campus), with lots to do and a real sense of community. I don't know what for a major yet, still trying to figure that out.
