okay so im a high school junior right now. im taking the toughest courses offered at my school, which is a private, nondenominational all girls college prep school in new orleans, la. i went to an SAT improvement class over the summer and ended up with a highest composite score of 2110 (670 CR, 690 M, 750 W). i have good EC's-musical theater, school newspaper, science olympiad, three choirs, some dance, and various clubs at my school. i havent done much volunteer work so far but i am joining the BBYO at my local JCC, so hopefully i will get some volunteer hours there. i work 4-6 hours a week as a regular babysitter. im looking to find some good safeties, matches, and reaches. i want a college with a good journalism/communications program (really wanted to major in theater, but parents won't pay for that degree) and with a location somewhere along the east coast (ill take a few exceptions in cali or something).
note: i have no interest in going to harvard, princeton, yale, brown, or cornell.

Well, it's not on the east coast, but Northwestern is #1 for Journalism and also has an AMAZING musical theater program. The school of Communications is also quite good.

Look at U Maryland College Park. You could probably get into the honors program and be able to select a Living and Learning program. I think that there is a good one for writing/communications. It's a huge school, so you would surely be able to do some theatre. Also, being a short subway ride from Washington, you would be able to find good internships and job opportunities.

gpa?

ithaca and emerson might be good safeties

Syracuse and BU would be pretty good choices for communications where you would most likely get in.
