Hi, this is my first post, and I was wondering if anyone had any input/suggestions for my list, I'd love to hear. Also, if you know anything about the MT program/auditions for any of my schools I'd appreciate that too!

"Reach": Boston Conservatory, Emerson, Pace, Circle in the Square Theatre School, Hartt, and Marymount Mahattan.
"Safety": Plymouth State (does require an audition, but due to various reasons I'm still considering this a safety), Johnson State.

MissWitch: Nearly all the schools on your list have subforums exclusively devoted to discussions of their individual program. I would suggest spending some time reading through the subforums for the schools you’re interested in, and if you have more specific questions, posting them there.

You can also glean a LOT of information from digging pretty deep into each school’s website, especially for the MT department.

Really, no one here can evaluate your list because we don’t know your particular strengths, weaknesses, type, training, etc. nor do most of us have any insight into the particular CURRENT needs of each school.

And last, be sure you spend some time reading the introductory thread,

MissWitch – I used to teach at Plymouth State (also attended 6th grade and High School in Plymouth) and still have many connections there in the town and at the university. I often hire Plymouth State students in the summer to work at the theatre where I am artistic director. PM me, I would be happy to answer questions about the program there. The program at Plymouth State offers really strong one-on-one mentorship, and current students and alumni are working professionally.

Are you a NH or VT resident?

Are finances a consideration for you?

The reach schools on your list overall are strong programs, but ALL of VERY expensive… if that is a consideration for you.

Are you hoping to earn a college degree or does it not matter to you one way or another? I am sure you know that Circle in the Square is a conservatory program. Looking at all of the schools on your list there is a WIDE variation in academic requirements.

I (and many people on this forum) have personal opinions about all of those schools. However, since you are the one who will attend, and you and your family will have to pay, ultimately you have to decide if this is an appropriate list for you. If you were to share some information about grades, test scores, what kind of program you are looking to attend, what you and your family can afford, etc… some may be able to offer some specific helpful feedback.

Tracyvp’s advice in post #2 is very good. Check out the CC forums and websites of the schools. The more specific you are with your questions the more useful feedback you will get. :)

Your reach schools in an odd bunch in that none of these things are much like the other. The one tie I see a lot of NYC. Is the city location a big factor for you?

^^ They look to me like all the New England/NYC schools that offer MT training, but for NYU. So, close to home probably? D’s list is similar-- except in acting, not MT. You might look at URI as a safety-- they offer a BFA with MT, are on the Amtrak route between Boston and NYC, and it’s an area rich in theater. I happened to really like the people there–might just be me, but it’s worth a look.
