1 Teacher (very good recommendation and I can get more)

I want to major in biology (specifically micro or cellular or marine) and go to med school. Are these good schools for my aspirations? Also do you think I should add or replace some schools for the ones I am considering? Also are there any schools you would delete all together? Are these the catagories I have placed the schools in accurate?

In a college I am looking mostly for a school with a strong biology department. Decent professors that are at least somewhat interested and care about their undergrad students. Also do they have a decent rate of sending students to med school.

PS Can you suggest any schools I should look into? Still adjusting my list.

PPS I realize UMich isnt really realistic for me and I dont really want to go there at all but my parents are forcing me to apply so I cant remove it.

Thank you very much I hope I can get a lot response because I really need some unbiased imput (everyone other than me is dead set on where they want me to go but they will support me wherever I choose.)

Thanks

Have you looked at Juniata? They have a very high acceptance rate into med schools.

This kid has asked for the same advice at least 20 times now!

I haven't gone to all the college sites but you should check out each one's class profile or search for common data set. I think Northeastern would actually be a match whilst Kalamazoo and Miami U would be a slight reach.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/537828-good-schools-put-most-emphasis-essays-recs-essays.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/537828-good-schools-put-most-emphasis-essays-recs-essays.html</a></p>

toledo it is a different question

Northeastern would be a slight reach not a match with those ACT scores/gpa.

Eckerd is a match, not a safety for you.

can someone give suggestions on the schools under consideration

Eckerd is a match, not safety.
Northeastern, Boston University--move up to high reach
I don't feel like looking up the rest.

UNC Wilmington-Average High School GPA: 3.7

Go the the Princeton Review Website and you'll find the profiles of admitted students. You have to set up an account with user name and password. Search there and you'll find what you're looking for.

Dude...with a 3.25 you'd be lucky to get into any 4 year school. you can't make things happen by asking obsessively. I don't know where you pulled your stats from, but most of the schools you mention I can't imagine as a match or safety.

Maybe it is different in MI, but out here a 3.7 is bare minimum for the big state schools and 3.5 is minimum for the expensive and none too selective private lib arts colleges. 3.25 could get you one of the regional teacher's colleges or Portland State.

Kalamazoo College is a reach school, not a safety for you.

Admission. Kalamazoo College

Indiana University

Admissions
Average High School GPA: 3.6

You have to be very conservative when categorizing your college wish list.

You have a GPA of 3.25. If the Average GPA of the freshman profile is 3.6, then you really shouldn't consider the school a match. Put it in the reach section. Stay conservative until you have a stronger ACT score in hand.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/529040-since-no-one-else-will-will-some-you-parents-plz-chance-me.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/529040-since-no-one-else-will-will-some-you-parents-plz-chance-me.html</a></p>

I want to major in biology (specifically micro or cellular or marine) and go to med school

I am not sure about Miami University Oxford (OH) being a match. The first semester of Bio is a weed out class that some Honors kids do not survive.

<a href="http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/staff/pdf/reporting/FreshmanProfile_Fall2005.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/staff/pdf/reporting/FreshmanProfile_Fall2005.pdf</a></p>

Here are the statistics for incoming freshmen at University of Illinois-UC

It's a reach, not match. 60% were in the top 10% of their high school. Average ACT was 27.8.

Recommendation: go to your instate flagship college. Do really well--earn a high GPA and get to know your professors. Then, try to transfer into a more competitive school. Another option: you might end up enjoying the instate flagship college. Get your bachelors there while earning a high GPA--then go on to a more competitive graduate program. You'll also save a ton of money.

Eckerd College 2007-08 Common Data Set

Eckerd is a decent match for your statistics. Campus is gorgeous. Add it to your "definitely apply to" list.

Dean Scholarship ($7,000)
The average profile of a Dean recipient consists of a HS GPA of 3.3 and an ACT average of 22/SAT 1030. The value of this award over four years is $28,000.

Academic scholarship awards will be renewed as long as the student remains in good standing with the College.

This info is from the Adrian College website. So, Adrian College is a good match for your statistics. If you get your GPA to 3.3 or above, you may even be considered for their Dean Scholarship.

Eckerd--match, but not safety
Adrian--a better match (I don't like the idea of calling any school a safety)
Instate Flagship--match
Now it's your turn to do the research.
