I'm currently a senior and wanted to know how my list looked, and if anyone has any suggestions based on my list please help! I need ideas for a few more match or safety schools.

SAT: 1300/1600 or 2050/2400 (Superscored)
GPA: 3.95/4.3 or around 3.75/4 unweighted, ranked 17/270
Good ECs and essay, White Male

Reaches: UVA, BC, Wake Forest, University of Michigan
Matches: UMD College Park, BU, Villanova, Tulane (high match)
Safeties: JMU, Penn State

I have a question. How are both JMU and Penn State safeties? Are your parents willing to pay out of state rates at at least one? Are you instate for one?

No I am not from either state, but I figured JMU was a pretty good price for OOS students. Plus the only IS university that I have is URI which does not have the academics I’m looking for. Forgot to mention I want to study psychology.

The problem for merit for you is probably the 1300 CR + M. A 1400 would give you all kinds of options for merit, for instance. There may be possibilities for merit at 1300 at other schools, but they may not be as well known as these.

Your list is fine if you can afford the schools. Often aid is limited for OOS students. I would put URI on your list. Maybe also look into SUNY Binghamton (which has excellent academics) or SUNY Buffalo (if you want a bigger school) which have good OOS rates.

good merit is COA minus 39K. you can look some of this up on their websites, OP. do they offer any 15-20K scholarships? what scores do they get for those scholarships?

There is no way to give you any safety school suggestions without knowing how much you can actually PAY annually to attend college. A safety isn’t a safety if unless it is affordable.

In my opinion, your current list above is very top heavy in terms of cost…unless your family can actually pay $40,000 a year for you to attend or more…per year. UMich does not meet full need for OOS students. BC, Wake and UVA are admission reaches. Your matches all cost more than $40,000 a year…some more than $50,000 a year.

Do you really have two siblings starting college, when you do? That is what you implied on your other thread. And do your parents earn in excess of $200,000 a year?

There is a whole thread in the financial aid forum for colleges that cost less than $25,000 a year. Look there.
