College List - Options

I would like to get some suggestions on my College List. I have been trying for months to come up with a list of places to visit over the summer with my parents, but just can’t seem to narrow it down.

I currently live in Mississippi and will be entering my Senior Year of high school. I don’t foresee that I will be eligible for any need based financial aid and am looking for merit based scholarships. I would like to attend a great pre-med program and have my parents save their money to help with med school. Looking for places that offer good opportunities for internships and research.

I really don’t have a preference as for as location yet, because I have not been to visit any yet. I just need to start somewhere and hoping someone on here can point me in the right direction.

Here are my stats:

ACT: 34
Currently Ranked #5 in a class of 327 at Public High School.

EC: 4 Yr. Varsity Girls Soccer, Varsity Archery, Varsity Tennis. Select Team Soccer Player for past 5 years.
Member of Student Council; Key Club; National Honor Society; Mu Alpha Theta; State Science Olympiad; BETA Club, etc. Current Member of JABOS Crown Club which is a Community Service Volunteer Program. Member of the 2016 Class of the Harrison County Junior Leadership Program.

Are you looking to play soccer in college? if yes, there are a bunch of great Midwest LAC’s that would provide an opportunity to be a student-athlete as well - Carleton, Grinnell, Kenyon, Oberlin come to mind, with the last three giving merit based aid.

If your career goal is in patient care, good opportunities for research are not an EC you really need to consider. Research is not a “must” EC for med school and to participate in research just to check off a box will not help you. When you visit schools, ask about opportunities that involve patient care (eg volunteering in nursing homes, hospice, etc). Good luck.

Miami University. (Don’t know about internships and research there though.)
