College list suggestions (health sciences/bio)

Here is what DD has so far:

SAT 2170 (710+700+760), GPA 3.5 unweighted, >4.0 weighted, strong ECs, no hooks

She is only interested in large/city schools and will major in health sciences or bio in those schools that do not have hs. Her list so far:

Brown (far reach as in no way she gets in)
Case Western
Boston U
Northeastern
Drexel
University of Pittsburgh
University of Connecticut
UMass Amherst (in-state)
RIT (very low preference, doesn't really like it)

Any suggestions/critique of this list? I personally feel, she does not have enough financial safeties.

University of Rochester

College of Charleston…not a large city but very urban feeling. Merit is available.

U of Minnesota - M-SP, merit available and inexpensive for OOS to begin with.

Ohio State University…merit fairly easily available.

University of South Florida…Tampa and merit.

Creighton and Marquette. Both smaller schools in larger cities. Both give great merit aid.

butler university
u of miami
nova south eastern

Johns Hopkins? Georgetown, GWU?

Have you investigated University of the Sciences? Originally Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science but a lot more now.

Research opportunities and honors program. Merit scholarships. In a terrific urban neighborhood (full disclosure: I live there) near Penn and Drexel, with lots of restaurants and arts and bike shops. USci students can use the Penn shuttle at night (6 pm to 3 am) for door-to-door van service in University City.

steve ma …Creighton, maybe a better choice for med school then under grad! unless they had a bs/md program, which I do not believe they have.

hendrix and muhlenebrg would also be on my list!

look at uab [UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham](http://www.uab.edu). 11k undergrads, urban campus. home of medical school. 7 hospitals surround campus so lots of shadowing/volunteering opportunities
automatic merit for act/gpa. if she ends up a nmf…full ride (tuition, housing x4 years, stipend. wonderful sci/tech honors programs geared towards research opportunities.

zobroward–why? It’s a fantastic undergrad school with very, very strong science programs and very high rates for med school acceptances.

Frankly the list is wide open for that major. Does she want to stay on east coast? What is her eventual career path?

Is money an issue? What does she want to do when she graduates - work or grad school? Does she know what she wants to do if it’s work?

Bio is a lame major in that you can do it pretty much anywhere with about the same final outcome of having pat knowledge. She might find something more specialized and implementable such as bioinformatics or molecular biology at a school that has a strength in a subdiscipline, and so gain better focus, depending on whether she knows what she intends to do.

Case Western. It is an outstanding school with many opportunities. Great merit aid. Excellent programs. The campus is gorgous and right next to cleveland clinic. They have a great support systems.
