College List + Suggestions

Hi all,
With applications due soon, I wanted to get some feedback on my current list and see if anyone has ideas for additional schools. I will be applying to communications schools so keep that in mind. Looking to major in journalism.

Stats:
GPA: 3.61 W
APs: AP Calculus AB (4), AP Spanish Literature (senior yr), AP Physics 1 (senior yr), AP Statistics (senior yr)
ACT: 34 composite (34 on english, science, and math. 32 on reading)

ECs:
Two years varsity football
Two years varsity baseball
-Two years JV baseball
Two years on debate team (wasn’t fully established until soph. year, when I spent brief period at another school so I was unable to join)
Three years school newspaper (Sports Editor senior year)
Two years yearbook club (Copy Editor senior year)
Four years model UN
Participated in sports broadcasting camp each of past two summers
Took a creative writing course at Yale this summer
Took a journalism course at SUNY Purchase
Write for two sports websites outside of school

  • Three years writing for sub-site of SBNation
    -Two years writing for sub-site of Scout.com
    Wrote essay for TeenInk that was named Editor’s Choice

Current List:

Temple u in philly
highly regarded and majority of radio/tv and print personalities in the phila area are temple grads

Marist and Quinnipiac may be options.

You might want to add Univ of Missouri and Ithaca College

What does your transcipt look like? Is your 3.61 W GPA a bunch of Cs with AP/honors weighting?

Vandy is your reach. Others all look solid. Elon has a cool TV studio and good in Communications.

I think you are in good shape with your list, quite frankly. Does the money work for you and your family?

Vandy is pretty test-score conscious these days. While your GPA is probably too low, if you’re going to apply to a traditional reach school, Vandy is a very good choice.

I think it’s a good list. If Syracuse is your #1 and you love it, and can afford it, go ahead and apply ED.

You’re very likely in at Syracuse and at least a few others, and you’re taking a flyer on Vandy. Research these schools and run NPC to make sure you can afford them. Assuming things check out, it’s a decent list.
