I need help coming up with a list of affordable schools. I have a 3.5/3.6 unweighted gpa and a 4.01 weighted gpa . I have a 1250 SAT
(1280 superscore) . My EFC is 0 and I want to be in or close to a big city. I plan on being premed.
Big school (20K plus)? Medium school (5k to 15K plus)? Small school (LACs that are typically under 3K students)? Are you a first-generation college student? Are you a member of an under-represented group? More details would help us.
We could throw names of schools at you all day (and people will!), but do you have any sorts of schools that strike your fancy? Get yourself a copy (or borrow from the library) the Fiske Guide to College. It has a really useful introduction (that nobody reads) about choosing schools, and it features in-depth profiles of 300 colleges and universities. Obviously, you could begin by identifying schools where your basic stats fall within the meaty part of various colleges’ 50% ranges for SAT scores and GPA.
Home State?
Can your parents contribute any $$ for your college?
Intended major?
HS course rigor? EC’s?
Any colleges of interest within commuting distance?
My ideal school would be medium sized but I’m open to bigger and smaller colleges, as long as their not located in rural areas. I am first generation and african american. Some schools that I like are Kalamazoo College because of its K-Plan ( no gen eds, study abroad, internships) and Xavier University because of its size and location. I’m interested in Clark University but don’t know much about it. My ideal school would be Drexel but it’s way too expensive. I’m in Michigan and really don’t plan to stay here if I don’t have to. In state schools I’m applying to are MSU, Umich, Kalamazoo College, GVSU, and WMU.
My parents will probably be able to give me about $2000 a year. I’m open minded about my major because every school doesn’t have public health/health management and policy. At an LAC, I would go for biology and economics. My hs course rigor is average. I’m involved in DECA ( Secretary) , (VP) NHS, student council, tennis, etc. I really don’t want to commute. I’m looking for opportunity and I want to be happy at my location so I don’t want to commute.
