This is the subject for those who have trouble staying on task. ;)

*Hi I am a junior at seton hall prep (very prestigious high school)

My G.P.A. is around a 3.9

Many Extracurriculars (with leadership skills)
Here is my list of colleges:

Reach:
NYU-Stern
Villanova

Target
U of Miami
Boston University
Northeastern

Safety
Syracuse
St. Joseph’s University
University of Maryland College Park

What do you guys think??? *

Do you know how you did on your PSAT? That is *somewhat * of an indicator of how you’ll do on the SAT (not perfect, but it can suggest whether you’re a high or low scorer)

I suggest that you take the SAT and ACT sometime after the first of the year (Take both since some kids do a lot better on one than the other - and for reach schools that can make a difference ). Pay the extra to get the full detailed score results - which includes the actual test booklet. Review your wrong answers (the correct answers will be given). Then take again later in the spring. If necessary, take them again in the fall around Oct.

TominVT - If that is all you were trying to say, why throw in incindiery terms like “desperate for students”? The person that brought up Tulane is not, in fact, a Tulane person. You are the one that decided to run it down. Your incorrect statements about Tulane have been discredited quite completely, including your incorrect statement about Tulane not being in the Business Week list meaning it is not in the top 100. Take some responsibility as well.

All the “recommending”, as you call it, was actually just correcting your misstatements which you started in posts #6 and 13. In fact this was the first thing that was not related to the OP, by you making a false statement that in fact had nothing to do with the discussion. Informing the OP of business programs at other schools seems highly relevant, at least to me.

None have been discredited at all. I still have seen nothing to suggest Tulane would be a better option than any on his list.

Some uncited reference to “the top internship recruiters at Tulane business 2007-2008 were . . .” is meaningless. According to whom? What do they mean by top? The most students have internships their or they are the best firms that people intern at? Show me a comparison of number of Stern students with internships in GS and number from Tulane! Let’s see some numbers.

Since we are giving uncited and unverifiable information, the top Tulane internships are at 7-11 and at Stearn every grad gets a job on Wall Street. Seriously, Tulane people are embarassing. Get over the inferiority complex. Tulane is Tulane - nothing more.

Back to the purpose of the thread: Where should an NYC guy study business? I will repeat, he has a good list (even without adding obscure schools in Louisiana). In my opinion, he should also look into Rutgers.

Now click on the Alumni Affairs and Careers Tab if you can manage. Try reading again. You literally did not see or are just ignoring the sentence above (in my original post about internships) where I said according to Businessweek …the top 2007-2008 (which is the last date listed by your ‘Gold Standard’ ) You obviously are ignoring every fact and piece of CITED data that contradicts your ridiculous statements.

Thanks for the update. Still “top” is not defined. I do notice, however, that the admission criteria is listed. I’ll summarize.

Tulane:
Average ACT: 27
Average SAT: 1291
Percent of students in top 25% of HS Class: 80% (20% not in top quarter if HS class!)
Ranked: Not ranked in top 100!
Application Process: Free application via online spam
Percent who Accepted 1st Job by Graduation (i.e. were recruited): 36%
Location: LOUISIANA!

NYU-Stern:
Average ACT: 32
Average SAT: 1435
Percent of students in top 25% of HS Class: 100%
Ranked: Ranked No. 15
Application Process: Standard
Percent who Accepted 1st Job by Graduation (i.e. were recruited): 96%!!!

Location: NEW YORK CITY!
Now explain to me how Tulane is “aiming higher.” Tulane is several tiers down. Just admit it an move on.

Now lets compare Tulane to Rutgers (the one I recommended)

Tulane:
Average ACT: 27
Average SAT: 1291
Percent of students in top 25% of HS Class: 80% (20% not in top quarter of HS class!)
Ranked: Not ranked in top 100!
Application Process: Free application via online spam
Percent who Accepted 1st Job by Graduation (i.e. were recruited): 36%
Location: LOUISIANA!

Rutgers Business School:
Average SAT: 1368
Percent of students in top 25% of HS Class: 100%
Ranked: 56
Application Process: Standard Application
Percent who Accepted 1st Job by Graduation (i.e. were recruited): 69%
Location: New Brunswick, NJ (40 minutes from NYC)

Benetode: You may also want to take a look at the University of Maryland information. The minimum SAT to apply is a 1300 and the Minimum ACT required to apply is 29. Both of the MINIMUM requirements to APPLY are above the averages for Tulane’s enrolled students!

Simply put, the average business student at Tulane could not even APPLY (nevermind gain admission to) the University if Maryland’s business school!

NYUDude doesn’t need to add Tulane to his list. He already has enough safties!

gabby - he is talking about the B school only, which does have lower average stats than the overall school, apparently. Tulane’s stats for the entire student body are slightly higher than those for Maryland’s Bschool, and significantly higher than for the overall school. But he misstates the issue when he says we are saying Tulane is a “better” option than the other schools on the OP’s list. First, a non-Tulane poster suggested to the OP that he look at Tulane. Then Tomin came on and started with inflammatory comments that had nothing to do with the issue, such as that Tulane is desperate for students. Then he adds to it by making a number of false statements about Tulane, and calling it an obscure school in Louisiana. That’s fine, it is pretty meaningless. Seeing his post on the 101 reasons to go to Tulane thread says it all, I think. I saw this happen once before to another school, it turned out it was a very immature high school freshman who was mad that his sister got turned down by that school. This also happens from time to time to other schools too, like Duke and WUSTL to name two I have seen very recently. It is not worth engaging him any longer and I reported his other comment to the administrators of this site.

I did notice that not only has Tulane been consistently rated in the top 10 for finance world-wide, but has also been named #4 by Entrepreneur’s Magazine for that topic. I think Tulane can hold its own. It is a good option for people to look at and make up their own mind.

Tulane boosters have officially hijacked another thread. First all of the junk mail, spam emails, free applications, billboards, etc. Now, in addition to the barrage of marketing, we are being harassed online.

I agree that NYUDude should apply to Tulane. The application is free so there really is no down side. He may want to get away from NYC. Nola is alot like NYC but with better weather (I hate the cold).
