Hi. I am an incoming senior for the year 2015 and wanted some feedback on the major I should choose in college if I want to pursue med school after undergrad to become a psychiatrist. I was originally planning to major in psychology to have a strong foundation but is there any other major that I should consider other than psychology?

Psychiatry requires medical school, and so you will have to complete all necessary prerequisites. Psychology, Biology, and assorted sub-disciplines (e.g. neuroscience) are appropriate, but you can major in almost anything you choose. An English major would help your communication skills in listening to clients, maintaining clear reports, and expressing yourself concisely. An Accounting major would help you maintain office records and navigate the complicated world of medical payment systems. An Anthropology major would give you insights into the variety and unity of the human experience.

Nice suggestions… neuroscience seems interesting… so does anthropology but I’m leaning more towards the sciences so maybe neuroscience…thanks for the detailed answer :)
