Hey,
Please list some good and average colleges which accept my credentials.Software Engineering will be my major.
SAT SCORE : 1500/2400
GPA : 3.7+
NO SUBJECT TEST TAKEN

Are you a junior or a senior?
Is English your first language? If so, what’s your score break down? If not, what’s your TOEFL Score? Did you get at least 600-650 in Math? Can you retake the SAT (that score is going to really hurt you, especially for engineering). What type of curriculum do you have (mostly college prep, college prep and honors, some APs, 6+ APs?)
What’s in-state for you?
How much can your parents afford?

I am an Indian student currently in 12th grade, TOEFL I will be giving this month, That isn’t my actual SAT score I will be giving SAT this month as well. I can’t retake as deadlines will pass. Consider my score on SAT between 1600 - 1800, Math 500-700 as I don’t think I wil be getting anymore than this because I have started its preparation from last week. FEES shouldn’t be more than $35000
Please find a match for this
I don’t get GPA in my transcript. I got 94% overall in 11th grade final exams.

There’s a huge difference between 500 math and 700 math… 500 = you’re unlikely to succeed in engineering, 600 = you’ll have to work very hard, 700= you should be fine, all other things being equal (ie, you go to class, study, prepare for tests, use the study center, etc.)

Anyway, you could apply to UMN Twin Cities, Missouri School of Science and Technology, NM School of Mines, Colorado school of mines, SD school of Mining, UMN-Morris (for CS), perhaps Stevens, NJIT, NYIT, City Tech in NYC…

I have already applied to Umass-Amherst,BU,Miami University Ohio and Univesity of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. What must be my SAT score and other credentials to get in ??

Anything CS at UIUC would require a near-perfect math score from you (both in classes and on the SAT), probably 2000+ total.
Miami OH and BU will likely take you at 1900 since you’re full-pay, UMass at 1800 if full pay, at 1600 id you’re not going into Engineering or CS.

If I apply in some other major which is easy to get in and then in sophomore year change my major to CS or Engineering ?Is it possible?

What about UNLV will I get in with a score of 1600?

No, it’s very hard to switch into Engineering from another major and you’d have to retake most Engineering 1st year classes.
Switching to a CS major= you could apply undecided and take classes in CS, then show you’re among the best students overall. It wouldn’t be easy.

With 1600, yes UNLV would take you. But I wouldn’t suggest going there unless you don’t have other choices. Look at directional universities, look at the universities I named. It’s a HUGE gap between UIUC CS and UNLV… there would be about 150 universities in that gap :).

Alright Thank you so much
Which good universities could take me in at 1800(sorry for troubling you so much :D) Can you name some good universities in the gap between UIUC CS and UNLV???
Thanks in advance :)

First, broaden your field: CSE and CS in addition to Software Engineering.
The schools I named above in #4 are all much better than UNLV and are within your budget. Check them out and plan to apply to 3-4 you like. Once we know which ones you like, we’ll be able to suggest more.

Hurry though because application deadlines are soon, like, within 10 days or so (or rolling, meaning that the earlier your application is in, the better. You don’t need your scores to send your application).

I have already applied to some colleges…now further i will be applying to USF,NJIT,City Tech and NYIT.Hope for best results and as of now I will start studying Day and Night to get atleast 1800 in my SAT! and if i am not able to get expected marks I will attend your colleges and take a transfer for Sophomore year to a good college will it be easy? And how is University of South Florida??I really like this university

what I read on MIAMI UNIVERSITY OHIO website “The SAT/ACT is generally not required but encouraged for most international applicants. These tests are required only of students that are international first-year (freshman) applicants from Canada, student athletes who must comply with NCAA eligibility requirements, and those who have attended a U.S. high school or secondary school in another country that follows a U.S. high school curriculum. Applicants who provide official test scores may be considered for merit-based scholarship awards”??? Which means I SAT scores don’t matter much : YAAYY :D

Yes, at many universities they don’t matter at all ( as an international full pay, you can choose NOT to submit them); you need to check on each website. However you need to submit them if you want a scholarship so check the costs for each school.
USF shouldn’t require a SAT score either, and if you like it, check out FAU, UWF, UNCF, and even UCF (harder to get into).

You can go to the ABET accreditation page and search for colleges which are ABET-accredited in CSE, we can then tell you if they’re easy to get into.

If you have good results in your curriculum, you should be able to get 700 in math rather easily since the content is very easy compared to the Indian curriculum. The difficultiyt really is the pace and how each wrong answer makes you lose points. It’s a matter of practice and speed.

These are the universities which I have short listed please tell me chances and which of these will give Financial AID
I have ranked Universities according to my desire please give emphasis to those.
And finally choose top 5 which would take me in.

I’ll try to score 700 in math
But for now consider my Math score 600/800

Do you need financial aid? Because most of these don’t offer financial aid. Are you full pay? If not, how much can you afford?

Your list is all over the place

<a href=“BigFuture College Search”>BigFuture College Search; link of the university.
what you gotta say about University of UTAH?
So from list which colleges I should apply? I will be going with your reply ![]()
and which college you feel is best for me and safety aswell does not matter if the name of college is not in this list you choose the college on your own.

I’m just surprised you’d pick a big commuter school in a not-so-good neighborhood rather than a residential university…
Utah is a “dry” state, meaning you won’t find alcohol (even in bars, there are special permissions, which you won’t have as a college student) and most classmates will frown on drinking. Not BYU but still Utah. Don’t know whether it’d matter as a plus or minus - since your name is Faysal I assume you don’t drink but I don’t know what you intend to do in the US.
From your list, I’d apply to 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 (especially if you’re Muslim and religious), 10, 11?, 14, 15, 16.
I’d add Clarkson, RIT, Union (those are expensive but you could get scholarships), SUNY Brockport, perhaps SUNY Binghamton and SUNY New Paltz in addition to SUNY Buffalo + NJIT, NYIT (City Tech), TCNJ.
Do you have limits on how many colleges you can apply to?
As an international who needs financial aid, your situation isn’t very easy so it’s best, if you can, to hedge your bets and apply to 15-20 schools, even if for Americans this would be insane - internationals who, for whatever reason, “must” go to the US, don’t have a choice and must apply to lots of schools.
Right now, NYIT, UMN-Morris, SUNY Brockport, UMich Dearborn, and USF will be the closest to academic safeties that you can get, but that doesn’t include financial need - you don’t know how much their COA (cost of attendance) to get the I20 will be, even if tuition is quite low for American standards. I would send out applications ASAP, then focus on the other colleges.
The others are mostly academic matches so you should get into a few of those, then you’ll look at cost, compare their offers, and choose the combination of “best fit” and “lowest cost”.
Do come back and let us know where you were admitted, the cost and whether you got any financial aid - that post (thread) would be very popular in the “international students” forum!

I am Back once again for help
I have applied at Syracuse University. Its optional to send SAT scores , so I wont send.My counselor has sent just one Transcript i.e 11th Std.So would it harm if wont send my 10th Grade Transcript.I scored 94%(90+ In Physics,Chemistry and Math) in 11th
And 82 % in 10th what are my chances? I have even applied for financial aid at this university.
