Hey guys,
I am a freshman at a private university. I want to take a semester to a year off my graduation time so that I can finish early and save money. I have already taken 3 CLEPS, but want to take more over the summer.
My school offers 6 hours of credit for the College Math CLEP, which is why I want to take that test over college algebra. How difficult is the exam? I am good at math and understand the concepts, but it’s never been a subject I like. For reference, I scored a 590 on the old SAT math. For those of you that have taken the CLEP, what methods would you recommend to prepare for the test? I am a full-time student, I work two part-time jobs during the semester, and I work full time over summer break, which leaves little time for extra studying. Will this CLEP be too intense for me to prepare for?
I’ve heard the college math CLEP isn’t too hard. I highly recommend doing a practice test and seeing how it goes. 590 doesn’t strike me as a definite sign you’ll do well, but all you need is to pass, not score excellently. Instantcert.com is known as one of the best study methods for CLEPs. It’s like $15 with a money back guarantee.
Go to college board.org. When you get there find the CLEP College Mathematics page. You can answer some free sample questions, about 7 or 8, which will give you a feel for the style of the exam. You can also buy a pdf that lets you answer about 50 or so questions, to really give yourself an idea if you are ready. SpeedyPrep.com has good materials and they guarantee that if you finish their program, but fail the exam, they will refund you. The money back guarantee at Instantcert is for 30 days if you don’t like the product.
My son took the Calculus test and it was very conceptual rather than just solving problems, not sure what f all, their math tests are like that but I would try some practice tests first.
